Fish Dreams

Does anyone else suffer from dreams of big muskies?? I was plagued by one last night. I like such dreams but unfortunately it increases the fever of my musky-itis, especially when I wake up just after the big one gets away. I always get a good laugh from my night fishing adventures. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has such vivid fish dreams - lets see who catches the biggest ski in their sleep, here's my fish "story":

I don't know the name of the lake we were fishing but it had big fish, nice looking ones too, we'll call it "lake x" (wouldn't want the secret getting out of course!) So I toss out the top raider and its doing its job on top while my buddy is working some other bait up front. Then I get a follow and quietly say "hey V, here's a follow". With the fish obviously interested I pull the white/pink/grey top raider under the surface and speed the bait up a crank...the fish moves closer. Following closer still, the fish still hasn't committed so I give it a quick jerk just as I come into the L at the side of the boat. This is when we got a real good look at her, a nice barred/silvery 48" ski with a big mouth opening on my bait. As I momentarily paused the submerged top raider for the second jerk the big one closed its mouth for a taste of my offering. Just as these big fish have trained me I waited to set the hook until she turned with it......but she never turned. Much to my dismay, she didn't like the taste of the top raider and began to open her mouth to throw my hooks away. In a quick display of desperation I violently ripped at the bait hoping to set one of the back trebles into the roof of her mouth before it was completely free of her teeth - my efforts proved futile. The b**ch swam away and I woke up realizing that it was only a dream and I can't cast back at her. Maybe I'll have better luck tonight...

I even get those dreams while I'm awake, sure is

a drag when you wake up and realize it's winter.

I have awakened many times during the winter and jumped out of bed, only to have my wife yell at me and say "Hey morron it's still winter, go back to sleep". smile.gif

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that suffers from this problem. I fall asleep every night dreaming of doing a figure eight with a big piggie following right behind. My wife say that I sometimes yell, "fish on" in my sleep.

I guess I was dreaming about fishing the other night because my girlfriend told me the next day I asked her if she had 'taken her fishy off the hook.' while I was sleeping. I doubt I was talking about one of the big girls though. I'd never call a musky a 'fishy.'

According to my wife I've got a pretty good hook set going, but I can never remember the dream that coincides with the hook set. One dream I do recall is waking up one hot summer night in a panic. I had dreamt that I forgot to pull my fish house off of Tonka! crazy.gif

Hiya,

Oh yes... I have 'em all the time, especially when I'm stressed at work. Some of them get pretty wierd - Salvador Dali goes muskie fishing... Other times I'm just fishing. Biggest problem is I set the hook pretty hard. Haven't elbowed my wife too bad yet, but it's only a matter of time before I really elbow her a good one. Fortunately she's started having fishing dreams too so she sort of gets it - but she doesn't set the hook in her sleep either apparently laugh.gif

Widetrack - I can only imagine what your flashbacks are like. Wonder if it's possible to have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from muskie fishing...

Cheers,

RK

As a psychologist, I can tell you this: I have yet to see a person on a psych ward who was there due to muskie fishing. However, I figure it's only a matter of time...

If I get the Queen up to the side of the boat and lose her, I'm pretty confident it'll be straight-jacket and Haldol time for Scoot.

I was just talking about this exact thing in the fish house this weekend. After a day of muskie fishing I always see muskies when I close my eyes right when I go to bed. It's like the images are burned into my retina. About a week ago my wife got up early on a Saturday to go and work out, I was sleeping "in" a little and my mother-in-law calls at 7:25 am on a Saturday morning. One of about 10 Saturdays a year that I don't have a hunting or fishing trip planned at dawn, and to top it off I was in an intense dream of muskie fishing. Working everything in my box and getting a big girl to follow, but not commit. I throw back at her again with a Weagle(I watched Badfish II the night before) and she is charging hard, her gills flare, her lip quivers, the phone rings crazy.gif "Good morning, what are you guys up to today?" I snap back "SLEEPING, in the grouchiest tone I have ever uttered aloud, and it was to my new mother-in-law of five months. After I settled down a little and explained the situation we both had a good laugh. I think I fell back a sleep and didn't get out of bed until noon, just hoping to get to finish the hook set.

I lost a boatside battle with a "Queen" class fish...

It's never far from my mind... I think about it most everyday... It sucks.

RK: PS, I re-powered my Ranger with a Yamaha 4st. 150. Hope it pushes ok. I'm looking forward to the reduced gas bill anyway...

Hiya,

I saw Widetrack the day it happened. He looked like the pictures you see of guys who lived through D-day...

Widetrack: Decided not to add to your powerhead collection huh? You'll like that 150. Bet it'll push that boat more than fine. I'm back in Black again myself. (Don't think you ever saw my new ride last summer.) 135 Opti. Never missed a beat last year. Dang good motor. How's the fishin? Think I'm heading up to Rainy first weekend in April with Brian Miller. Crappie-o-rama...

Ya, I wasn't sticking another dime in that motor... would have cost 3k to patch it up, I decided to suck it up and go with the 4stroke.

I've been chasing hockey alot this winter, fishing when I can. Did manage a 29 inch walleye last trip out. I'm heading out this weekend for some action.

See you up north before too long.
