Bob_D
A lip gripper tool? I have had mine for 3-4 years and it is the best thing since sliced bread for handeling pike. With the gripper I can keep the fish in the hole until I'm ready for a quick photo or two, then release it without causing any damage to the fish. It's very handy on those super cold days where you are worried about the fish freezing. Here is a pic of mine (Berkley) with a lanyard I made. Here is a video of the gripper in action: Pike/Gripper Video
Deitz Dittrich
I bet those would work slick... I myself just use the new lindy glove. I have been known to be a little accident prone when it came to handing pike.. I dont know what my problem is.. I just get a little complasent I think... anyway.. I made it all year without bleeding from a pike... The glove deffinatly saved me quite a few times this summer... that lip gripper would do the same I bet! Bob_D
I fish by myself a lot. With the gripper I can put it on the fish, then attach it to my tipup (heritage laker) while I'm putting my camera on the tripod and setting it up. That way the time the fish is out of the water is limited and I still get my pictures. As far as bleeding...A frind of mine told me the other day..."You are the only guy that I know that brings a med kit and actually uses it." I guess you have to pay to play. Duffer
that would work great for me even in the summer of my cousins dock i am known to drop fish in the lake.
Bushwacker
I have been using that same exact tool for three years now. I got stuck about 24 times by a flopping muskie that kicked out of my hand and flopped over and over while having two free treble hooks to puncture me. After that I went straight home, grabbed my Cabela's catalog, and ordered the first thing I saw. It works great. I have used it in the summer and in the winter for both pike and muskies. It makes it possible to catch and release a fish without ever taking it out of the water or having to handle it.
buzbunni
The lip grip tools are great products. I did a bit of research(after reading Bob D and Blaine's posts ) and I think my next purchase will be a product called The Lipper. The Lipper has some features that the other lip tools do not have. Do a google on Lipper Tools. Good product.
LEECH21
Are the grippers pretty solid? By that I mean, would it be possible for a fish to shake it loose?
LocalGuide
The grippers are solid. The only way a fish could break lose is if it broke off its lower jaw pretty much. I have used a boga grip before and they are neat. Its works great for holding onto bigger fish just incase they flop out of your hands and fall onto the boat floor while taking a picture. augernaut
Bob I got one and made a lanyard for it similar to yours after seeing you post it on another site. Haven't landed any big fish with it yet, but it has worked great for the smaller pike I've caught.
TheGuy
They do work great!! If you are even thinking of getting one go ahead and get it. I think it works great in the winter when fish come up that hole with there mouths open and you just grip em and hall em up!!
