TV BOY
How high do you all block your drop style houses? I'm sure it depends on how long they will sit. I used 4x4's the 1st 2 times out but it was a pain in the neck to keep an eye on bobbers. Do I dare drop it on the bare ice or do I risk locking it to the ice when its time to go? 0 Crestliner-fever
all you need to use to block your house is 2x4's, you'll be good to go when your ready to bring it up
0 Rainman
I leave mine right down on the ice most of the time, it depends how much snow is on the ice!
0 Ronsay
I drop mine down, snow or ice. I would rather be on some snow so I can bank it easier.I usually only stay overnight and have not had any problems, even with some overflow out of the holes. If you ever did freeze in some, I think you could pull the hole sleeves to let heat under the house before you cranked it up.Ron
0 TV BOY
A concern that I have is the insulation underneath sticking and pulling off. (it's spray foam underneath). Even with the insulation and catchcover sleaves the floor had a slight cold draft. I have the 8" sleaves and they were a perfict fit with the 4x4's.Now with snow I'm sure I can bank it a bit to eliminate the cold floor.
0 korn_fish
I drop mine right on the ice. Although my insulation is on top of my trailer and not underneath and between the cross members.I use the shavings from drilling holes to "bank" my holes. Meaning, I drill the holes with the house already down and the shavings naturally fill the gap between the ice and the floor. I just pack it in there and scoop out the excess. No draft!!! 0 mtreno
i drop mine on ice as well. have never had any issues. i have had to chip the tires out a bit a few times but that is all. when i did use 2x4 block they froze to the ice and i was not able to get them out. leaves a big mess for the spring and possible problems if someone was unlucky enough to hit it with an auger later in the season. thats why i went to no blocks. winches have more than enough power to break up a bit of ice if needed when moving my house.just my .
0 hawkeye43
with the 2x4 or 2x3 tubes on the house frames they will pop right out, when you go to lift them and tires I have had them froze in up to the rims, the tire will flex out of the hole when you pull. 0 Farley
We tend to use 2X4's but sometimes dont. We have tabs welded on each corner so even if we did drop it to the ice, we could still get a pry bar under the corner to lift it up since the only part touching the ice is the 2" tabs. If there is a lot of water on top of the ice we will throw down some 2X4's otherwise we just drop it right down.
0 Ryan_V
I just drop mine right down. I also have spray on insulation on the bottom, and I worry more about traveling down the road with it and rocks and gravel getting to the insulation than the ice/snow scraping it away. Just curious, where did you get your house, I see you're from St. Cloud, I got my house from that area too!
