fishingbuddy
My Sunflower Mr Heater only works if I hold down primer button. As soon as I let the button go it shuts off. Any ideas on what is wrong?Thanks3 Crappies on Wapo made it worth it though
Moose-Hunter
Sounds like a thermocoupler problem. Try bending it a bit closer to the element. That may be enough to heat it up and get your heater off "prime"... If not, it may have gone "belly up" on you.Good luck...
Swamp Scooter
I agree with resetting the thermocoupler. If just moving it in wil not help try a little steel wool and freshen up the tip. If it is a new heater you have to put the thermocoupler closer in. Good luck as you will need it now!
icehousebob
If bending the thermocouple closer to the heat doesn't work, you can buy new replacement thermocouples. Gander and Northern both carry them, at least they did last winter.
fishingbuddy
The heater is 4 years old. I did try to move the thermacouple but I did not clean it up. Be right backThanks
pikechaser
Be sure the thermocouple is close to the burner, take a wrench and make sure the other end is screwed in tight to the safety.. if thats ok replace it..you can buy them at fleet farm or gander..etc.. cant really clean them..little different than wats on most newer furnaces...that should take care of it...if that doesnt do it you will have to replace the safety..which is the part you push & hold in..but I would highly doubt thats the problem
Minnetonka
I have had to replace thermocouples twice in the last few years. Sounds like the same issues that I was haveing. A new thermocouple is not expensive and is easy to replace.
Fergus Mor McErc
Minnetonka is right. The thermocouple is cheap and easy to replace. Don't mess with the old one, just get a new one then you won't have to worry about it anymore. I've had to replace a couple of mine over the years. It appears as if they just wear out. Once replaced, the things work as good as new.
