Stories from the past weekend

For the first time I hunted state land and I was presently surprised. I had access to the state land through private land and I encountered many hunters on the first half of the day. I still saw 11 deer between opening and noon. Mostly fawns or deer moving at 40 mph!!! At noon I moved in a different direction from the same access point and saw 11 more deer including 4 bucks. Two were too far away or presented obstructed shots which I didn't take. I had a spike sneak up over a ravine and we had a face to face for 5 minutes before he blew at me and bolted. At 4:00 pm I had a different spike walk by at 40 yards and I ended my season by taking him. I did have a 3/4 mile drag through a woods full of downfalls. I thought I was in better shape. The best part about the afternoon is that I did not see another hunter from noon to 4:00 pm.

Overall 22 deer seen in a state land was a pretty good day and way above expectations.

Good luck and be safe.

Got an 8pt on Sunday afternoon. Saw 27 deer overall, all but the 8 were does and fawns, lots of fawns. Besides the 8 I maybe would have shot 2 others. I'll be out Sat.,Sun still have a doe tag to fill. Then its time to get the tip -ups out. Good luck

I got a nice 11 point on opening day about 7:15. Came out chasing 5 does. Made a good shot at about 220yards.

On Tuesday everyone left my in-laws house to go in the woods very early. My mother in-law was in the living room watching tv and she noticed 2 dark objects in the dim light of the morning. As it got lighter it was a very large 8 pointer chaing a doe around the field about 50 yards from the house. After chasing for about an hour she got an x-rated show right next to the house. This all happened in an cutover field with no woods within 400 yards.
