cubbies11
Has anyone seen this, looks really cool. I have seen similar but this by far looks to be the most comforatble, anyone use it? Just wondering if anyone knows of places that carry them? I have only seen them through cabelas and they are on backorder. Let me know.Cubbies
I'llTakeWhatiCanGet
Are ya talking about the backpack setup? I think i posted something about that somewhere else (who knows where). I saw them at Gander here in Duluth a few days ago. It looks like a pretty slick deal, but i haven't talked to any one that has used one. I think i'll try and find that other thread and see if anyone has got on there about it.....
folke2000
Gander in Maple Grove has them....
Wild Willie
I have seen them at Joe's Sporting Goods, Thorne Brothers, Mills Fleet Farm, Gander Mtn., Reeds, etc. in other words just about anywhere...if you look hard enough.
cubbies11
Sweet, I was at the Gander by the MOA last weekend and they didnt' have them yet, good to hear. I will most likely be buying one, sure beats the bucket tipping over and losing tackle on the ice. Cubbies
rich4walleyes
These Ready Rig packs are going to be very nice. There is alot of room to carry things including a GPS and cell phone. There is a part of it that will detach if you would like to carry some of your equipment to another location but not wanting to carry the entire bag. These will be on display also at the St Paul Ice Show. You should also take a look at the auger bags that Ready Rig makes. The are very nice also.Rich
Pete Riola
I bought a Ready last year and switched to the Revolution for a couple of reasons. Revolution seems to be tougher, it carries gear... lots of it, you can wear it like a back pack, I can put my long handle rods in it and jigs don't get stuck in the lining. My Ready Rig has 6 jigs still stuck in it. Bugs me everytime a jig gets hooked in the lining of the rod carrier and it costs me time when I have to tie on a new jig. Just my 2 cents worth. JR's makes a pretty nice bag too I'd look at that one as well.
jerkin'm
I love watching Pete stick jigs in the lining of that ready rig! Ice fishing tantrums are Great!
rich4walleyes
Pete,Have you seen the new Ready Rig Ice Pack? I think that it is bigger and better than the Revolution. There are spots to carry gear and everything in the new Ice Pack. This is also made to wear on your back like a backpack making it easier to carry your gear to the honey hole. They have done a great job on the new stuff. Also they now have a Triad case that will carry 3 complete ice setups with reels and lures attached.Rich
Dennis Steele
I checked out one of the Ready Rig back pack deal at Gander the other day.It it big and surprisingly cheap.I bring a LOT of gear out on the ice when I go fishing.6 to 8 rods, 3 tackle boxes, tip ups, extra gloves, GPS,and accessories. All fits in my Revolution. The Ready Rig backpack is soo big,I would have extra space even if I brought out more gear.Might be more than what a guy needs, maybee not?I can't remeber what the fabric is made of where the rods go? That is an improtant feature as Pete mentioned.Another thing to check out is will a bag protect your rods if the bag gets abused. If your in the market for a new or your first ice bag it is one I would check out along with the Revolution,JR's,or Croxton. Wild Willie
Pete - I have use the ReadyRig case for about six years now and have found that all you need to do is secure your jigs to the rod before you insert them into the case. Some of my rods have cork handles so I just secure the jig hook into the handle. Some of my rods have a hook resting place on the rod blank. On some of my rods I just place the hook of my jig on the second to last eyelet closest to the reel. Most guys use this method to keep their rods combos from getting all tangled regardless of whether they use a case, gear bag or bucket. I have never really had any problems with the cushion material in my cases. Not to say it can't happen...but...I have never seen a material on the face of this earth that won't let a sharp hook penetrate it...at least with the wooly material in the RR's you can usually just tug the jig a little and it will come free. Hope this little tip helps you save some time when setting up, so you can beat your Bud's and ICE the first slab! I know how good that feels! Dennis Steele
I always did what you suggested, hooking my hooks into the cork, hook keeper,or an eyelet. For some reason it never fails, after bouncing around in the back of the truck or even worse in the Otter at 30mph accross the ice, the hooks always seem to free themselves and end up in the fabric of the bag.Plus with a soft side bag,if the bag gets bent at all, it also bends the poles inside and the hooks end up loose and your line tangled. It also doesn't work well when you have a Go Devil or Angel Eye that has trebles. They catch fabric no matter where you hook them. Thats one of the nice things about the Revolution. Its a hard side case with hard plastic linning the rod compartment. The Bag can't be bent and IF your hooks come free, they don't catch on the plastic and get stuck. You won't get a bad tangle either, because there are 4 seperate compartments that can hold up to eight rods. Its a pretty slick bag and holds a lot af gear. The biggest bag does have to be that Ready Rig Back Pack. sandman469ss
I bought the Ready Rig 2 weeks ago at Cabelas. Thinking ahead as I always do, before I even took the rig out of the cabelas bag, I grabbed a piece of 4" PVC drain pipe(thinwall=lighter) & cut a 36" piece. Slides right into the compartments. I also took some 2 1/2" PVC, cut several sections, tied them together & stuck them into 1 of the compartments. Each rod has it's own tube. No tangles, no broken rods, no hooks in the fabric. Problem solved.
troutstix
I too bought a Ready Rig, and really like all the space it has to offer. Sandman, some great ideas on the PVC in the sleeves! I do have a quick question for you. I understand the sleeves with the 4" PVC, but I am confused on the sleeve that you put the pieces of 2 1/2" PVC tied together. What is this for?? Thanks for the great ideas!!
sandman469ss
It's 2 1/2" PVC pipe cut to 36" lengths, tied together & slid into the sleeve to give you individual tubes for each rod. That way you don't have to worry about the rods getting tangled together.
taxmancommeth
They have a clearance sale on there summer stuff right now. I just picked up a ice fishing bag the other day and thinking about upgrading to the backpack!
Dennis Steele
That PVC idea is a good one.A coiuple things you should be carefull of when adding the PVC to the bag is to make sure that its not too long or too short.Maybee make a notch in it so that the reel foot rests on the PVC, not the line or the rod tip.If you slide your rod into the PVC and the line is pulled tight to the reels foot,it will snap the tip off your rod.The tight line and the weight of the rod itself is enough to do this. You also would not want to set the bag upright so that the tips of the rods are down. They might slide through the PVC and snap that way also. You would need to load the bag then slide the PVC over the rods in an upright position, and make sure you don't tip the bag over. This had happend to me in a couple rod bags that I used to use where they used PVC in the "tube" of the case. It can actually be worse than having no bag at all.I broke 4 rod tips in one season that way.The Revolution bag took care of this problem by not having the line rest against the plastic inside the case, and when the Revolution is set in any way the weight of the rods is placed on the reel and not on the tip or the line. Timber33
I own a Ready Rig Ice Pack. Sweet. What I find funny is the knock off's mimicing Ready Rig. Ready Rig is the original, and I buy on the originals. It is a nice product.

iffwalleyes
Timber Glad you think that Reay rig was the original. They were the orignal rod case. But Croxton was the Original Rod/Gear bag that started everything. Now there are many options. I saw the ready rig bag for the first time this weekend and I must say it is nice and well thought out but it looks to me like it starts to get to big and bulky. Nice system though. I like the detachable pack that is a nice feature.
