Enids Hubby
I just got my ice grippers in the mail today , WOW!!!!!. If they don't stop you from slipping I don't know what will. Why did I even bother with the rubber slip on types? Anyone else get theirs ordered up for first ice ?
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted November 13, 2004 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted November 13, 2004 Hi Enids, they are lightweight, yet industrial grade ice grips. Made for loggers working freezing rivers. Easy on and easy off. I've had my pair for 6 years now. I've messed up and walked on cement and rocks a few times and still grip like crazy on slippery ice. No more falling on my rear end or struggling to pull a portabe fish house with those babies on. I will never go back to those rubber grips again if I can help it. Snag
I bought some last year and they really work great. No falling on your ^$$.
Ray Esboldt
I've said it once, so I'll say it again (I've never been shy about plugging products I like). I've purchased a ton of ice fishing stuff over the years. Some of it really good, some of it absolute junk. No one product has impressed me more than the Ice Grippers. That's a fact! You can break into a dead sprint if you want. Put as much gear as you can get into your portable, no problems with footing with those babies on. They're an energy saver too when you're walking into the wind on glare ice. No more taking 5 steps to move 2 feet. Oh, that reminds me. Matt Johnson and Exudedude, did you buy yours yet? You two might want to look here right now.
Captain B.R.K
$40 for a pair of ice grippers.....you guys are MAD They better be made to withstand and not break and have one hell of a warranty
Lost
What are they made out of?
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted November 15, 2004 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted November 15, 2004 Hey BRK, That's a great point you bring up they are definitely one tough pair of ice grips. To date mine have cost me $6.70/yr. Each additional year I get out of them makes them that much cheaper per year and I fully expect another 10 years out of these babies. Actually much cheaper then what I was spending before, because I kept on having to get a new pair of the rubber ones at least once a year sometimes twice. If they didn't break one would slip off and I'd be left with one side of a pair. They also didn't work as well. I'll bet anyone who has purchased the Ice Grippers will tell you it is money well spent.
Ray Esboldt
If someone can suggest to me a high quality alternative that is cheaper, I'd love to see it. I swear I have tried every option in cleats. They either don't work very well, or they are junk. Some border on good enough, but they let you down eventually. If something is going to last 10 years (probably more like 20), $40 doesn't seem outrageous. The only way I could see someone rendering these unusable in less than 10 years is if they drug their feet on pavement frequently.
Blaine
Have you looked at the Hodgman Gladiators? We use them a lot out here for surf and wade fishing in the rivers. They have replacable carbide tipped spikes... I bought a set for ice fishing last year and love them! There is a set on hsolist here.... http://cgi.hsolist.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7113621915&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
Bob_D
I use "Creepers". The only thing I did not like about them was the straps. I tend to walk a good distance and the were always coming off. I fixed that with sone mini bungee cords. I cut them to lenght and use then in addition to the straps. I did not have then come off all last season. backlash 1
How do the grippers work for in and out of a permenant, will they mess up the carpet?
Ray Esboldt
Rubber soled devices versus steel. I'll take the steel. It's probably pretty hard to tell from the picture, but the carbide spike look rounded on the end. I'm sure they would work fairly well, but wouldn't they tend to skate around? backlash, The Ice Grippers shouldn't mess up the carpet unless you're doing the shuttle run in the house. The spikes on the Ice Grippers are pretty small, so I doubt you would notice any holes. Without carpet? They will sink into your plywood floor. They will also puncture floor mats in your vehicle and the bedliner on your truck. Those are from experience.
Lost
Do they sell just spikes? My boots have spots threaded holes for screwing spikes into them.
Dave
Lost, maybe those threaded holes are the same size as golf shoe spikes.
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted November 16, 2004 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted November 16, 2004 Hey backlash,I wouldn't wear them in a permanent shelter. I might walk in with them and then take them off right away. That's part of the beauty of the Ice Grippers, they are easy on and easy off. Off in 3-5 seconds each. On in slightly more time.
