What does omc mean.

hey guys I'm looking at a boat that doesen't have a motor but it's advertised as having omc controls, what does this mean? am I only able to put one kind of motor on it? thanks in advance for any info on this.

Also, OMC is basically Johnson/Evinrude products. Since the year 2000, Bombardier took over OMC when OMC went bankrupt.

ok so this boat is a 2004 with omc controls that means I would have to put a johnson or evinrude product on it, or are these controls sort of a universal fit type of deal which would allow any type motor installation like honda, yam,or merc, sorry for so many questions but I'm not informed in this area.

Normally if the boat and outboard are separated the controls go with the outboard. If you were to buy a new outboard you'll get the controls with it.

from what i've been told, the controls will not interchange between brands.( other than johnson and evinrude) i think you have to buy the controls seperately .

Some controls are interchangeable. My last boat (bought new) ended up having Mercury controls and a Yamaha outboard. The boat was prerigged for Mercury but I wanted Yamaha. Talk to the dealer who's going to sell you the outboard...
