MrBig
I'm curious if anyone knows what the fine is for having beer in the boat in Ontario. We were up there earlier this year and there were lots of theories.I've heard:- No fine unless there is an open can in the boat.- $100 for having any beer in the boat.- $400 for having any beer in the boat.- $100 per can for any beer in the boat. What about a bottole of liquor? We usually didn't have beer in the boat, but I'm just wondering if anyone has the real scoop. Big G
What I was informed of 2 years ago was that the fine is this:$50 Canadian for the first beer can.$3 for each beer can after that. Not positive though, that is just what we were told by the resort..........call them and find out
Fishinglund
How does that beer law work as far as transporting beer to an island campsite? Thanks,Fishinglund
DrJ
MrBig. I saw your earlier post on Lk St Joe. We went the next trip after yours. Do you stay at Old Post. It was pretty cool this year but the lake is so great it still produced as usual. Only one pike over 41" though, my son and I cast 3+hrs a day. Hope you had a great trip. Good Fishing DrJ. marknamy
fishinglund,The law states that you may transport beer in a boat the same as in a car. It must be in a sealed package, meaning the case or twelve pack cannot be broken, and it must be out of reach of the driver. I have been told that it is a good idea to stow the beer if possible. By stowing it there will be no question whether the driver has access to it.Hope this helps.
czl99
I just got back from eagle lake and the resort that we stayed at said that there was a $180 fine for having beer in the boat. In ontario you can not transport beer in a boat. They told us that as long as you have the beer in a cool were they can not see it they can not legally search you unless they see a beer can in your boat. ------------------Fishing isn't everything it's the only thing. MrBig
Well that really clears things up -- not!! Oh well.DrJ - we went thru Slate Falls Outposts. We stayed at the East cabin. Not sure where you were at. We had very good fishing, but not great. Only 3 northern over 40" this year where last year we had 11. Still a great time. Hemlock
Marknamy is right. I live on an island and we legally transport beer out to our island. It can NOT be opened....the case, the bottle of wine, whiskey, whatever. Sealed and you are legal.------------------Hemlock"Throw'm back"
srj
You can see the wording by checking out the appropriate Ontario HSOforum--do a search for --- alcohol and gaming commission of Ontario. Then type in "boating" on the site search window.
