Where to Find Molasses?

Hi,

I am looking to find Molasses in larger and cheaper quantities than found in the local grocery stores...

Does anyone have a good place to find this?

I prefer to have it close to hwy 35 someplace between Minneapolis and Duluth.

Any help is greatly appreciated...

It is easier to find large quanities of Molasses in January, it is much slower then and much easier to get!

I used to get molasses at Houle's Feed Mill out on Hwy 36 towards Stillwater. I can't remember how much it cost(fairly cheap)but it came in 5 gallon jugs.

Makes me wish I was bear hunting this year.

Call ahead to any town that has a Feed Mill between you and Duluth. Feed Mills use bulk molasses in many types of live stock feeds. Bring a 5 gallon pale with a cover. I would guess five gallons would cost about $5.

Hugo feed mill (in Hugo ) has bulk molasses they add to horse feed and it's available year round. It's $.30 a pound with a minimum purchase of $15. I had a 5gal pail filled (55lbs) for $16.50 and also got #100lb of oats for $12.50 (2, #50lb bags).

They close at 6pm.

I'm fermenting a mix of 50lb oats, 2gal each of used cooking grease/hot water/molasses. Yummy

Something that hasn't been mentioned is that if you purchase molasses from the feed mill you need to add sugar to it! If you don't believe me taste it it is bitter. Yes it smells the same and can be used an attractant but if you are using it to keep them there add sugar.
