Guest
Can't say I've heard of the gentleman - I'm more into NFL ( go 'phins! as I believe you say ) The only celebrities I know of here who are carpers are the ex-England/Arsenal soccer goalkeeper David Seaman and one of the guitarists from brit heavy metal combo Iron Maiden. The Who's Roger Daltrey is a big name in trout fishing here -he owns a big fishery and supplies fish to loads of UK lakes.
LuckyFish
Had a chance to talk to Kent a few years ago at the landing on Lake Tetonka, here in southern Mn. He was after bass that day. He's actually a pretty nice guy.Lucky
Ray Esboldt
I believe the guitarist of Iron Maiden is Adrian Smith."Up the irons!"Only a Maiden fan would understand that.
RuKiddingMe
I got to talk to him a couple times, he goes out of the same resort my family does for Ice Fishing on Mille Lacs. He's a nice guy.Matt
Aquaman01
Adrian Smith is an angler? Huh. Learn something new every day. I was at the 1988 Donnington Monsters of Rock where KISS was an opener for IM - "Iron"ic, 'cause it was the other way around for their 1st US tour!Oh yeah - fishing...sorry - got off track there. ------------------Aquaman<')}}}}}><{"The bow is set to distant shore, then loss is gained and gains once more. When beach is reached and sails are torn, the journey is it's own reward." Guest
Aquaman - a fellow headbanger Saw IM at Reading Festival in 1981 or somewhen ( pre Bruce Dickinson ). I used to see alot of HM bands in Southampton ( Thin Lizzy, Scorpions, UFO, Rush, Motorhead, Sabbath and Van Halen on the same bill! )The hairs got shorter, but I've still got the denims and my trusty 1974 Stratocaster air guitar which I occasionaly dust off when noones looking Someone mention fishing?......... DARK30
Did Someone Mention KISS? I can't believe this pic was taken 26 years ago!! Anybody recognize Gene? ------------------cast,cast,cast,cast......
Aquaman01
ROFLMAO!!! Did Gene ever wear a yoke-shirt? I like Paul Stanley's fro. I forget that original IM vocalist's name...you saw UFO? Hmm - if it was that era - did you see Uli Roth with the Scorpions? That man is an excellant - and too often overlooked - guitarist.Aquaman [This message has been edited by Aquaman01 (edited 09-04-2003).]
Guest
Paul Di Anno was the IM vocalist.last I heard he was working as a chef in a pub near my home town ( Salisbury )!I saw UFO when whatsisname Chapman had replaced Micael Schenker ( great guitarist ) - I believe they're still going, with schenker occasionaly playing with them on the club circuit here. Saw the Scorps on the Animal Magnetism tour ( 1980 I think ) - one of the best gigs I ever saw. I think Uli was with them then. Are all carpers hard rock fans?[This message has been edited by englishsteve (edited 09-05-2003).][This message has been edited by englishsteve (edited 09-05-2003).]
Guest
Must admit I get a bit more 'bucolic' when fishing - Mike Oldfield, Jethro Tull, folk music, that sort of thing. Also BBC Radio 4 or the cricket commentary on the radio while fishing ( if nobody else is about - I hate noise pollution from other people when I'm fishing. )Dark - where did you get that pic?[This message has been edited by englishsteve (edited 09-05-2003).]
Aquaman01
Heavy fish - Heavy metal...go figure. Randy Rhoades and Metallica still have a spot in the rotation, but the Maiden is seldom heard (still won't yard-sale it, though). My speakers now spill classical, reggae, ska and blues more than anything else. I guess I'm just not as angry and angst-ridden as I once was. Must be all that fishing! vern
That's classic Dark! Gene "Dark30" Simmons. My freinds wore the makeup on Halloween once in about 79'. I'm sure thousands of kids did back then. I saw Kiss on the last 2 reunion tours. Nostalgia I guess, but it was lots of fun. I still play my guitar all the time. Fender Strat & Marshall 50 Watt. Guest
'realy don't mind if you sit this one out'...yeah I was listening to that coming back from a session last Sunday, by coincidence - excellent album, tho my personal faves are Songs from the Wood and Heavy Horses - the latter I play a hell of alot on the way to and from lakes for some reason. They just sound so urm....English in that folky way.[This message has been edited by englishsteve (edited 09-08-2003).][This message has been edited by englishsteve (edited 09-08-2003).]
Aquaman01
Tull is my all-time-favorite-survived-the-test-of-adulthood band. My favorite album is "Songs From The Wood", with some favorite pieces being "bouree"(sp?), "somthing's on the move", and their version of "ballad of john barleycorn" off of 'A Little Light Music'.Now that I'm a confirmed kitty-holic I suppose I should find 'Catfish Rising', too. DARK30
How does a thred go from Kent Hrbek's love of Carp fishing to old Rock n Roll greats? I don't get too much music anymore since albums went away. I couldn't resist picking up Alice Cooper's "Dragontown" CD....Same as he used to be. Theres only one Alice! I noticed in the article that Mr.Hrbek fishes the Minnesota river sometimes. I wonder what he would think if he hooked into a big Flathead? Steve, Do you have any of those Wells Catfish around where your at? ------------------cast,cast,cast,cast......

Guest
Dark -re cats - not in my local region, but then again we're talking 50 miles radius as being local. There are a good few cat lakes here but its not a species I go fo. Europe is the place for big cats - english guy on holiday in Spain on the River Ebro landed a 185lb cat last week On the old music note, anyone who likes Tull might like a band who are old friends of mine caled The Morrigan. The link below has MP3 samples of their stuff including a track I played on myself ( I play button accordion )calle Merily Kisded the Quaker's Wife ( these buggers have nicked a load of my tunes! ) Enjoy! http://freespace.virgin.net/themorrigan.1/CDs.html
