Night Time Slabzzz

While waiting for the ice to come, a good way to pass the time is to hit up the fall night time crappie bite. Starting right around turnover and sometimes lasting till ice up, the larger crappies will often leave the schools at night and roam up in the shallows chasing the baitfish that are starting to congregate. A prime area to look for is a shallow weedy spot near where you find them suspended throughout the day, secondly is moving water, like creek mouths, connecting channels, or spillways, again, near holding spots. In both cases, Instead of casting inward will try to work perpendicular to the weed line or mouth, or if at all possible, even beach the boat and pitch out. These fish were caught in about 2 1/2 to 4 ft of water.

Has been pretty windy and had to work a 1/8th and 3 inch tail against the waves for these.

When calm will go with a 1/32 with the hook through just the top lip of a large fathead.

The great part about this bite is all those bug eyed crappies with teeth that will be mixed in
