Had a 17' Crestliner with a 115 Johnson (Suzuki) on it. Did nothing but change oil/filter and lower unit lube for the 6 years I owned it and never had any problem with it.

You might consider the 140 Suzuki.  I have a 98 pro vee 1775 which might be the same hull, and I really like the 140 Suzuki I have on it.   In any case Suzuki makes a great motor.   I think the Merc is probably good too.   I would try to get close to rated HP, especially if you fish sizeable lakes.

Boat is rated for 125 , unfortunately the 115 is the closest choice without going over and voiding warranty and possible liability issues . Boat is factory rigged with merc and I have a time deadline to get the boat before July 1 trade tariffs come in affect , after witch the cost will significantly increase and kill the sale . I will have to stay with merc and not look back . I do have a Suzuki 70 on another boat and I agree Suzuki does make a great motor

I think the Merc 115 4stroke is a great motor as well.   I might well have bought one, but they were in short supply when I was in the market and the dealer down the road had the Suzuki in stock.
