City archery range safety.

I live near a park in town that has a couple archery bales, and I see a lot of stupid stuff go on there with people walking and playing while someone is shooting and nobody having any concept of safety, archers or park patrons.   Tonight was just about the worst though.  A guy was practicing out at 50 yards, but you can't stand at 50 by the bales, 45 is the furthest due to a dog park fence.  So he moved his own target to the side a good 40 yards to be past the fenced dog area.   Besides the fact he is nowhere near the designated shooting area in the park, 50 yards straight behind his target was the playground with families and kids.....

I see you are in Roseville, what park are your referring to?  I am in St. Paul but right across the border from Roseville.  I shoot over at the Keller Lake Regional Park off of 61 just south of 36.  Its a nice range with a lot of targets and the vast majority of everyone that shoots there has been really respectful.  I did have one problem with a guy shooting with this son.  He was helping his 12-14 year old son get dialed in and they were on the 20 yard bale right next to mine.  However, they started shooting from about 5 yards behind the shooting line where I had been shooting from.  I was basically 5 yards in front of them and maybe 10 feet to their left and they thought there was nothing wrong with that.  I pointed out the safety issue and then moved over to the 40 yard target that was as far away from them as I could get.  Fortunately thats the extent of the problems I've had there and everyone else has been good.  The range is also set up pretty well with bales and a berm behind it and a forested area between the berm and the Keller Golf Course that is behind the range.  To get an arrow off the range someone would intentionally have to arc one over the trees.

My biggest issue with this range is the amount of garbage that gets left.  A lot of people can't seem to get their targets into the garbage and others will bring their foam targets out there and blow them apart with broadheads and then leave all of the busted up foam laying everywhere and then just throw the bust up target up against one of the fences.  Seems like  I spend half my shooting time cleaning up other peoples garbage.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
