shouldnt this be in the "off topic thread?" dont know how you can call that turkey hunting :P

the day i think i need one of them to kill a tom, i will know it's time to hang it up

Really, so having a Tom running fill bore at you across a field to within feet wouldn't make you a little excited? I guess I would hang it up if I was you. ;)

hunt however you want. i just said that style of "hunting" is not for me.

i prefer to use my skills of calling, woodsmanship, etc, developed over many years of hunting turkeys to kill my toms, rather than relying on the latest gimmick, which could get you shot

and i've shot many toms that came running full bore at me across a field to within feet ... to my calling. thats what gets me excited about turkey hunting, not crawling across a field behind a decoy ;)

Would still take a lot of skill to hunt like this.  And likely calling also.  Don't know why you wouldn't call with this still.  And I wouldn't imagine you would get shot on private land as there wouldnt be anyone else there.  If you thought to use this on public land though... maybe not the blind for you....

That would sure be exciting having those toms run in on top of you, but man there were a lot of really poor quality shots in that video.

I agree PFUNK some of those jump up and shoot-shots seemed pretty bad. I think you would need to find a way to be ready and either shoot through or around the decoy better. Seemed like a lot of lost birds maybe. :(

I think it looks like loads of fun, but believe me, not every turkey you see will come running right up to you.  I'm sure they rolled tons of footage to get these shots.

We tried a similar product (Heads up decoy) last year and I can attest to the fact that birds did not just coming running right up to us begging to get shot.  We ran off a number of groups of birds doing this and it never produced a shot for us.  I'm sure it will work if you get in the right situation and find birds in the right mood (obviously, based on the videos), but we never encountered that...

Funny and at $3 bills not sure they are going to sell many?  Now they just need to add one of those police drone shotguns and you can hunt from the truck! :D

Um, this is just for fun. Don't need any overly critical feedback of how that's not hunting, wouldn't be legal etc, etc. Lighten up boys. Seems hard to share any fun goof video's or pictures around here without "ruffling some feathers".  :(

the mojo kinda tripped my trigger. it was 430 am and my planned scout had just been cancelled by rain and high winds ;)

That was funny llliniWalli, always cool to see new things no matter if they may work or not. My reply was not to you but about posting fun things. Just some reactions to them.  Thanks for sharing.  :)

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
