Popular Post ThunderLund78
Secretly really looking forward to tomorrow morning. My Wife runs the 4H program for Rice Co and she has to put on the big Easter Egg hunt tomorrow in Faribault. She's bringing my two boys (5 and 8 years old) to help out and also partake in the fun. They'll have to be out of the house by 8:30; I have some things to get done so I'm not joining them. What I am going to do, though, is take an hour, grab my Outdoor News or Field & Stream and hit-up the local cafe for breakfast by myself. There was a time in my younger days where I would've thought it was embarrassing to eat by myself. But now I cherish these rare moments of me-time. Sitting in a booth with a plate of eggs, bacon and pancakes in front of me, sipping coffee, reading quietly and keeping to myself. I get to take my time, don't have to worry about cutting-up the kids food, keeping them in-line, running them to the bathroom etc. It's a rare thing to have a moment of peace at any meal these days. I love my family to death, but you gotta take advantage of these opportunities when they come! The challenge will be to get on with my tasks and not hit the couch for a mid-morning nap afterwards! I told and attractive waitress one time if that was a grease stain or are just happy to see me, I got her fone number on the reciept. had to burn it. RebelSS
Great food of my choice everyday. Cornish hen with Rosemary-honey butter and sage stuffing tonite. Really.
reinhard1
"is that a grease stain or are you just happy to see me" !!! Have to admit, never thought of that one back in the day. Well back in the day I used to eat a lot alone when in the outdoors. Way back in the woods, all alone, after I returned from the Army, was the greatest thing. Used to tell the guy's at deer camp that I talked to the trees and the animals. I think they believed me and I don't know if that's a good thing or not. But now, eating and being alone is not my nature anymore. Especially eating alone. Since I do all the cooking and we rarely go out to eat, eating alone doesn't happen. good luck. Dotch
Dine alone frequently which is what happens when the wife is gone or at work when it's busy. It does allow one to collect their thoughts or when I'm at home, crank up some tunes while I'm having a libation and grilling. Having some leftovers for future reference is never a bad idea here. The last thing I feel like doing especially when chores are time consuming is to attempt to whip up a big meal every night. I usually leave the flirting with the waitresses to the pros. If the waitress flirts with me, sure, I return fire. But as someone pointed out, it's a little like the dog chasing the car: What would he do with it if he caught it? reinhard1 and RebelSS

I never knew it til about ten years ago but my normal personality is pretty flirty apparently. It's a great excuse too. I think if I tried I'd get nowhere but I've ended up in a few potential pickles because of just how I am. It's not like at 8am you're going to be making out with the breakfast waitress behind the coffee maker but some night when you're at the bar and next thing you know the gal that signs the back of the breakfast ticket with a smiley face and the name "Sandi" you need to have some resolve. ThunderLund78
Not much opportunity for that down here in New Prague. Usually it's the same waitress that's been there for 25 years at the local greasy spoon. She was old when I was young. If I get a smiley face and digits on the bill from her, I'm hitting the door running. Sadly (not really) while my 5-year-old's excitement for Easter egg hunts is still unabated. My 8-year-old woke, up saw the 1" of fresh snow and decided he wasn't looking for eggs in the slop. So my plans of me-time were dashed. But it's not often I get to spend 1-on-1 time with either of the two boys. So I cooked up some Spam & Eggs, and we and I cranked the tunes, tackled some household chores as a team and had a really good time. Even better, mom will be REALLY happy when she comes home to a clean house. Tonight he's hosting a sleepover with 5 friends for his belated B-day party so all the cleaning will be for not. But my wife's running hat show and I get to spend 1-on-1 time with the younger one so he doesn't annoy big brother and his buds. I'm taking him to my mom and dad's and he and I are gonna have a sleep-over out there. Even with selfish plans spoiled, it ill be an even greater weekend because of it!
