Value of an old Chevy?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

What's a 1998 beat-up Chevy Silverado with 176,000 miles worth? It's got some rust, a bit of hail damage...dents, dings, it's been used. Still runs OK, but it's a bit hard starting. I need to turn the key once, then stop, then re-turn the key. Then it starts. It does have brand new tires. smile

I was hoping a bit more than that. smile

It was my uncle's pride and joy, and I inherited it after he passed away. I couldn't sell it for a long time--felt guilty even thinking about it--but I have nowhere to store it, no need for it, and I'd prefer to not have to continue to pay insurance, tabs, etc.

Guess your uncle wasn't one of the 1%, eh? It always seems to me that a 4wd pickup has some value, like maybe 3k, no matter what. But 2WD... not so much.

I guess you could look at what's his name's list and see what things are going for in your area.

I have 98 k1500 with 200k, and I still think it is new wink Told my grandkids, who want it now, that I will give it to them when I quit driving it, which will be in about 30 more years, haha!

Mine still looks new except the rust just starting to hit under the doors. Drat...

New ones sure look nice and all, but this old girl just keeps doing what she needs to, pulling boats, driving through cornfield and down logging trails - and starting like the day I bought it. I do need rear springs...

Whatever you chose to do give some thought to registering the change in ownership yourself, or go to a DMV place with the buyer and watch as it is done. Cheaper rigs are often bought and not transferred and then run without insurance. It's a pain to to a forced sale.
