Early fall strategies

I have never really fished much in the fall, I am usually in the timber! this year I have been invited to a friends place up by Hackensack for bass fishing the weekend of September 17th. I know you guys don't have a crystal ball or anything, but could you guys tell me where bass, Largemouth and smallmouth are typically located this time of year ( in mid september).
I am a shallow water bass fisherman and love to fish the slop and rocks, I am hoping that some of the bigger fish will be located in these areas. Its only the weekend so I won't have time to screw around, thats why I am asking for your help. thanks in advance

It's hard to say what the weather will do between now and then, but typically the water temps are just starting to drop as nightime air temps are slowly on the fall. The weeds will still be green and will hold a good population of fish. But check out a lake map and look for deeper humps and bars, and points that extend out into deeper water. Work these with deep running cranks if possible or carolina rigs. I have also had good luck staying right on the weedline and casting crankbaits right along it and slightly inside of it, also a good way to pick up some bonus walleyes. Also, unlike id summer, fish typically bite better throughout the entire day as the sun is lower in the sky not forcing them into the thick vegitation.

Poncho, by Sept. 17th we should have started to get cooler nights, that usually all it takes to start the larger fish moving towards the flats. Look for large flats of deep water. I usually toss large rattle baits 3/4 to 1 oz. large spinner baits or a Spence scout, Once the crank bait bite starts... look out it can be fast and furious.

i fish in Park Rapids around that time of the year and they definatly should be shallow. spinnerbaits into the bullrushes should work, but also deeper cabbage should be hot as well. last year about that same weekend was one of the best fall outings i ever had. good luck!

Usually in the fall I fish cranks on the deep weedlines. The shallow weeds will begin to die and the fish will start to move out to deeper water where they can find greener weeds.

But then again Sept. 17th isnt to late into the fall. You could probably still get them in summer spots if it hasnt been getting to cold.

When you say shallow, do you mean lily pads? I usually fish shallow for bass, and that is usually in 3 feet or less. What about smallies? I usually fish for them in the pre-spawn time of the year when they are on every boulder you can find. Will they be right back where I found them in the spring?
Thanks for all of your advise guy's!!!!!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
