Looking for a portable with a floor. Something that would fold up to fit in a pickup beside 6800 opt

Hi guys,

I am looking at picking up a used or new portable. I need something cheaper since it will only be used with the kids a couple of times. I have been looking at the 6800. Just wondering if there are any other options available now a days with a floor. The 8800 is too heavy & will not fit under the trucks cover. I have a Canvas craft flip over for me. I am also not interested in hubs. Thanks.

lightest and easiest idea is the new hub styles, and hold up into a car. Only down side is that on a windy day you will probably need someone roughly adult sized to help you put it up. As far as the floor goes you can always get a rubber mat or something along those lines. I have had the clam 5600 and 6800 the 6800 Is a bear unless you have some help putting in and out of the pick up. It also does not pull for dump across the ice. the 5600 i had was a decent house and fit between the wheel wells of a pick up or in the back of a blazer type. And i liked that except again a bear to pull across the lake. Frabill makes a decent shack with the xl and my old man has that, and likes that, but he doesnt go on the ice till he can pull it out on the trailer, and set up.

Walleye44,

I have what you're looking for posted in the For Sale - Insider forum. 5x8 with wood floor that folds up to 5x4 and roughly 5-6 inches tall. Check it out and make an offer. Comes with a sled for towing on the ice.

Updated comments. I forgot to add I need one with a floor. (like the clam style) Not interested in the hubs because of the wind. Heavy does not matter too much. This will only be used when you can drive on the lakes. I have a nice Canvas craft lodge. Thank you.

Would you be interested in a clam 5600, I have one I haven't used for years and really don't need it anymore.

I used to have a 5600. I loved it. Not sure if I (3) people would work. Maybe with me & just the kids, but it would be tight I think.

If you can find 2 5600 with the clam link (i think it was called) you could put the two houses together. I always thought that was pretty cool. We would take trips up north and I had a 5600 and my dad had a speed shack xl and we would connect the doors and put a blanked around the door way to keep them open. Might take a big longer, but easier to handle with 2 shacks

I know you said you're not interested in hubs but if you think outside the box, one option would be a solid 8x8 hub like the Clam Bigfoot 4000 on an 8x8 wood floor you build yourself. Could do a hinged 4x8 that folds open into an 8x8 if you get my drift. And then have it set up to bolt the hub blind onto the floor through the corner grommets. I've thought a bout that approach but honestly just use the foam interlocking matts right now.

try to find a "Trophy" to look at. they were available in 5x7 or 7x8, I don't think they are available new. two tubs when folded, easy setup, removable hole covers approximately 2x3, plus round covers. downside for you may be the height, I doubt if they are much over 6 feet, depends on how much standing you do

Walleye44,

if you already have a canvas craft lodge why not just buy one of their cabin kits and make your own floor for it. the thing that is nice about theirs is the option to get it in full thermal. I bought one of their 4'x 8' full thermal cabins once then built a heavy duty insulated floor with 6 cath cover holes in it. I had them add a extra door at the other end of the house so it was easier to get in and out of the house when there was more then one person in the house. they offer these as large as 8'X 8'.
