Who else Jigs for sunfish ice fishing? Alot of people jig for walleye, crappies, and perch but for sunnies i see alot of people using bobbers. Not that theres anything wrong with that but just wondering why more people dont jig for sunnies..rather than using a bobber. if you jig for sunfish What do you use, what size jig/hook, and what color jig. What do you tip it with for bait?

Thanks for the replies guys, ive talked to guys that do one each, thats what i normally do, but some people ive talked to just use bobber, like the yellow foam ones, so does the size of the bobber depend on how hard they will bite? What color jigs and size do i use? becuase ive had good luck with sunnies some years but others they wont bite,, so i dont know what im doin wrong,

Bobber/ float size won't make a difference in how hard they bite, but more so if/when you can tell if you have a bite. I prefer to counter weight a float( by jig size or weights) so there is very little resistance for the fish to feel. If you use weights; you do loose being able to tell if a fish just picks up the jig.( usually the float will just lay over then)

Types/ kinds of floats? Think about your lure, how you will be fishing it and what you would rather use. Thil makes great stuff, but I prefer cheaper,( I used a Styrofoam with the center stem) grin as a slip float.( makes adjusting so much easier).

When ice fishing I would use these for dead sticking, but preferred a spring bobber for jigging.

whats a good line for sunnies? I have 4 lb line on my main pole, then 2 lb. line i think on one of my poles and i think on 6lb. the other. so i have 3 poles. Should i use the 2 lb line for sunnies? I use 4lb for crappies and walleye(Thats my main one)But still catch an occasional sunfish when crappie/walleye fishing.

I'm liking the 3 pound for gills and crappies. And for that occasional bass or northern that smacks it. smile

3# is my go to, now, too. It doesn't feel like it's going to snap like a strand of brittle hair just by tying a jig like 2# does, and it seems to be a fair deal more flexible than 4# with similar strength. A good compromise for me, anyhow.
