two cups
My strike master laser ice auger does not cut very good, have to apply a lot of pressure. Bought new blades, cuts the same way. Noticed that between blade and auger there is a small gap. I assume the pitch is off on the auger. Anyone ever have this problem. Going to pick up a new auger tomorrow for my power head since I don't live close to big lake. If you think I am on the right path let me know, or if you had this problem and fixed it your self please tell me what you did. I also sharpened the leading point and it does not help. Thank you, Rick
Hawg
I'm not sure sharpening your own lasers is a good idea. Get a chipper and never worry about it again. SM hasn't been in Big Lake for quite a while.
two cups
where are they located then, I did not sharpened the blades, I bought new ones. I sharpened that metal piece that comes to point that they weld on the auger. It cuts before the blades, I think it keeps the auger from jumping around

broman
Try D-Rock in New Brighton. They can fix your pitch issue.
Trump34
I'm having the same trouble with mine and this is the reply they sent me.Charlie,Thank you for your e-mail. If you have already tried new blades or your blades are fairly new, then the blade mounting carriage may be bent. You may send the drill to us and we can try to bend back to factory spec ($20 min charge). Please note that this is not a guarantee that the auger will stay at the factory spec since the steel can be weakened from bending. If you wish to do this, please reply with the size of the auger, your full name, address and phone number and we will issue a return authorization number for you to send it to us. If you choose not to have the pitch checked, you may purchase a new drill from our HSOforum www.strikemaster.com
two cups
That is also what they told me. I think this weekend I am going to try using shims and see if I can get it to cut.
two cups
I put one .030 shim between the auger and each of the blades, it can only be about 1/4" wide to fit in front of the bolts. It worked great this weekend. Problem solved
Agronomist_at_IA
I put one .030 shim between the auger and each of the blades, it can only be about 1/4" wide to fit in front of the bolts. It worked great this weekend. Problem solved Did you run a shim the full length of the blade and where did you find them? I would like to try the same thing.Thank you
kerryd15
Tin foil is .001 if that helps. I bet a pop can or soup can would be close.

WalleyeVision
If you aren't able to get the blade working properly - I've had great success with my Nils. I use it with my electric auger head and it cuts really well.
Trump34
I put a new set of blades and drilled 4 holes in 10" of ice. The first 2 holes cut very well and by the end of the 3rd hole it was cutting a lot slower and the 4th hole was terrible. Then I shimmed it and tried again... still terrible. Only options I can think of are getting a new drill unit or breaking down and going with something electric.. maybe a Clam Plate and a 7" auger bit. two cups
Trump 34, I made my own shim out of .030 shim stock. Depending how thick of a shim you used, it might not of been thick enough. If you have a friend that is a machinist he could get you some. Mine was about 1/4 inch wide and went between the auger and the blade in front of the 2 hold down bolts. If you don't know anyone give me your phone number or e-mail and I can get a couple to you. Rick

gunner55
We have a tool for gapping sparkplugs out in the shed that has a small piece of .030 shimstock on it. Not sure if it would be enough but might be worth a shot.
