I looked into this for my 859 last year. My 859 will fit in the case so you should be good. The U means it comes with a battery. I never went that route, however. I was worried if I dropped it then I am out summer & winter fishing. Have a good one.
walleye44
Plus our units do not have a heater element in them.
CuppedAndComitted
Thanks for the reply. Ive actually thought about the higher risks of potentially breaking the unit in the winter as well....hmmm, maybe I should just keep the bullet proof FL-8? MN Mike
I would save that money you were going to put towards the conversion and use it to buy an updated flasher one day. I converted my 798 a few years ago and it worked ok but in hind sight, I wouldn't do it again.Mike
dairyman
wow----------that's surprising,I use my 788ci for both open water and ice fishing and have been well satisfied. All I added extra was an ice ducer, made my own carrying case
eagle_3464
I too am very happy with my 798 conversion. I like the fact that I have GPS, lakemaps, waypoints and sonar all in one unit. I actually like running my 798 on traditional sonar rather than flasher mode. That way if I look away, I can still see if there may have been a fish in the cone momentarily while I looked away. I converted using the PTC-NB and the ice ducer purchased a couple of years ago on Amazon for around $100. Makes a really nice setup.
fivebucks
I have the ice case for my 698 and it fits perfect so you are good to go size wise. I do not have the ice ducer yet. I mainly wanted it for the GPS and Lakemaster chip and for my boat in the summer. I bought it late last ice season and haven't decided if I want the ice ducer. I probably will get it cause a guy can't have too many toys.
