If you backlash with any of the superbraids and have a heavy lure on like a spinnerbiat. The braid has a tendancy to cut itself. I like Power Pro best for braids, however, I dont like it for spinnerbaiting.

I use briads for flipping, skipping lures around docks, and sometimes for crankbaits in the fall. Thats about it.

I still remember well the first time I threw a spinnerbait using spiderwire, the feeling of the blades spinning was unreal. After awhile you get pretty good at telling if the blades stopped spinnin due to a strike or a foul up.I know for a fact it has definetly helped put more fish in the boat for me.

I have done this several times....unfortunately for my bank account because watching baits fly through the air with no line attached can get awfully expensive!

My line was being snapped on the spool because of a backlash. What a sinking feeling. If there was a contest to see whose lure would travel the farthest after the line has been snapped....I would be right up there! LOL smile.gif

Yeah that is a strange problem. I have used spiderwire stealth in the past and thought it was really good. I am using power pro now. I also think that is good too. However I don't use it for spinnerbaiting. I like mine mainly for topwater slop, docks and jiggin'.

Good Luck

Today was my first experience with spiderwire and it may be my last. I lost 3 spinner baits while casting. Not too many more frustrating things than to watch one of your favorite baits flying through the air after you cast and realizing that it's no longer attached to your rod. I've used several other braided lines in the past and never had that happen. Yes, it is brand new line. And yes, I know how to tie a knot. I've always used a palomar knot and it has always worked well with the braided lines I have used in the past. What knots do you use with spiderwire? Anyone out there had a similar problem?

I did manage to land several green carp on texas rigs after I got sick of losing spinnerbaits.

maddawg53 I have had extremly good luck using spider and love it. I have not lost a spinner bait because of not knowing how to tie a knot or a knot breaking. I mainly use a sinch knot and use a small dab of crazy glue at the knot.

I've tried a handful of the braided lines and as Exude said, breaking off of heavier lures can happen (like a spinnerbait) when backlash occurs. When I first started using braided I broke off a handful of spinnerbaits too. The reason is that braided lines have no stretch, so when a backlash happens on a big cast, the line will stop abruptly and cut itself at the knot.

I use palomer knots on all of my baits just because they are easy and effective so it really isn't a matter of a specific knot. My advice would be to not sling a heavier lure "as hard". Being that we are in Minnesota, there are not too many MN lakes that have really clear waters so real long casts are not as necessary as we like to think.

As for which brand I like; I like them all. The first spool of braided I used was power pro and I lost about 4 or 5 lures on the stuff, but after I got used to not "chucking" my lures, I haven't lost one (no matter what brand of line I've had on).

Good luck.

Used spiderwire and several other braids since their inception. They all have the problems discussed, but the advantage of feel is well worth it for me. It is something you have to learn to manage. As far as knots go... I have had the best luck with a doubled "barrel or fishermans" knot.... Actually saw Jimmy Houston do it. (Which doesn't necessarily lend credibility) You double the fireline put that through the loop/eye then bring it around the main line about 6 times and back through the opening near the loop/eye. Then trim all excess ends.. Haven't had a single knot fail on me yet in 8 years of using it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
