Nice fish, RRR. I'll be out there on the big pond this weekend chasing muskies. After seeing your pick, I might have to reconsider. Also, I see that Roman Made Mother swimbaits are $1.00 off at T.W. After seeing your fish I might have to pick up a dozen or so.

My buddy caught a smallie a couple weeks ago that was barely touching 20" and I weighed it at 5.35lbs on a good digital scale. We also had a 20.5" fish that looked nearly as fat but was only 4.73lbs.

What is that hook system you have going on there?

It is an 8/0 or 9/0 jig hook that is completely covered by the bait making it virtually weedless. I run a stinger treble that I stick in the bait just behind the dorsal fin.

When smallies head hunt the bait, which they typically do the very stout jig hook gets them. That is what happen with my fish. It grabbed it just behind the head effectively putting the jig hook right in the roof of the nouth.

The bait comes over rocky bottoms very well too.
