walleyeking19
So I just got a new goose call, and looking at my lanyard I think its time to get a new duck call. I currently have an Echo single reed, and while I dont hate it, I just wish I had a double reed instead. So what would you guys recommend? I dont care about brand, as long as it sounds ducky. So I'm open to whatever! Lets hear em, thanks guys!
Kettle
I have two double reed duck calls and I like them both and neither of them broke the bank. I have a flyway custom double reed acrylic which has a louder higher pitch sound and I have a DJ Illinois River Dr-115 wood call(Formally called Olt Calls) The DJ Illinois river call is double reed as well, very low pitch and raspy. Both were under 40$, far from competition calls but they both sound like ducks. I have a soft spot for the traditional wood calls.Kettle
dan z
I have a zink ph-1 and a field proven poly double reed. The field proven can seal the deal pretty good but I don't leave home with out the ph-1 which screams duck. Its an acrylic. Good luck lots of calls out the and plenty of sales guys wanting to sell them.
wooduck26
I don't leave home with out the ph-1 which screams duck. Its an acrylic. Could you post a sound file of that call? It could be very useful!
bemidjibasser
A Straight Meat by Tim grounds and an old Haydels double reed hang on my lanyard and both get used frequently depending on the conditions and how the ducks are acting. dan z
A sound file will sound terrible IMO. just go to a local shop and one of the " pro's" should give a demo.
Fowlmouth
Been a long time fan of Echo calls. They sound great. Check out the DRT double reed. Or for about half the money Check out a Hobo Hunter double reed. That thing sounds really ducky and worth every penny.
luckycrank
LOOK AT jj lares calls.. they come with 3 differant reeds ... to suite your calling style .. they are well built and probally the best freeze resistant call ive found . I have a acrylic hybrid and A-5 pretty much order to your likings my hybrid is byfar my favorite .. soft ducky low end .. for close in l. Yet load as youd ever want it without requiring loads of air presure. And not readily available at most outfitters or spirting good stores. Making for a slightly diff . I like Echo , RNT and others including the above mentioned DR-85 but they all are readliy available .. so ducks hear em for 1000s of miles ..there something to be said about being differant from the guy who just shot at em. And missed !!just my two cents
mallardnwalleye
Double reeds are pretty monotone and lack range, inflection and a je ne sais quoi that single reeds have for bringin ducks in.I recommend you keep the current call and learn it's tonal capabilities as well as how to tune it. Learn how to read ducks too. Double reeds are like shooting with a single shot shotgun. Yeah you can hit some but not like with a real shotgun. Keep the Single and learn it.
