Question for you wolf men

Recommended Posts

Not a trapper myself but from following around a friend of mine checking his traps as well as being with him when he got his wolf I can suggest bait, I don't think legally you can "catch" a wolf and let it go. Leg traps typically break the legs of the animal so to let one go would not be right my friend. I would try and hook up with someone who does this more regularly and read the regulations in depth.......

Footholds is the proper term for foot trapping a wolf, they do not break bones first of all, and you would be required to release a wolf if you got any over your limit.

If you can catch coyotes in the snow you should be able to get a wolf, myself I would snare them, much easier with a ton of snow. Bait and lure are both important as a wolf don't slow down for much if they have their minds made up.

As for the amount of traps set I would set plenty as its unlikely your going to get more than one in a day, read up on the regs, but if you are a new trapper I would do alot of reading before setting steel for wolves they. Not like trapping a muskrat, they travel far and wide and if your lucky will travel through an area once a week. Good luck
