I see from a previous post that you are on the Shimano prostaff so maybe you know where I can get a Scorpion reel I picked up a couple years ago worked on? It needs a good tear down and cleaning, I dont want to tackle this for fear of screwing something up. Also, I have a couple cu200bsf reels and I was wondering how much of an improvement this is over the standard curado. I am picking up a couple more reels and if I dont have to spend the extra $40 each I dont want to. Thanks

First off, congrats on the Scorpion... very nice reel you have there!

As for cleaning you have a few options. If you wanted to stay close to home I would look up Ron at Shoreline bait and tackle. On Lake Minnetonka. His store is on Spring Park Bay. I would trust him with any of my reels. I know the feeling of sending off your expensive reels and trusting someone to work on them. I wont mention the place but it was in the north metro. I sent in 5 reels. Needless to say I ended up with 4 ruined reels... I was able to salvage 3 of them but one was never useable again.

Your other option is the internet and send your eels off to be cleaned. I have dealt with Lake fore tackle repair a few times and know other who have as well and have been very pleased with them. do a search for their web address or e-mail me and I'll give it to you.

as for the Curado -Vs- Curado Super Free

its a persona preferance thing.. During the retrieve they are pretty muhc identical reels. But during the cast you will get better distance from the Super Free. You can also change out your berrings on a Curado by putting ABEC7 berrings in them.. it kinda makes a super charged Curado... However you save money by just buuying the Super Free to begin with. I personally think the Super Free is worth the extra $$ but thats just my opinion.. The regular Curado is a great reel however.

hope I didn't ramble to much...

Thanks for the heads up on Ron. I will call him. Lakefork tackle will not work on Scorpions, I talked to Connie about it. Something about those reels not supposed to be sold in the states? I dont know why, I thought that they were just the Japanese version of the curado. I guess Buck Creek Reel is an "authorized" repair facility but I hate sending the reels in the mail. That scorpion is by far the nicest reel I have ever thrown. Thanks for the info

The Scorpion is not sold in the U.S. As far as I know the only way you can get your hands on one is "used" or over the internet. The scorpion is the japan version of the Curado, however they use a few different parts which some feel more desireable. I have used one but dont own one.

I dont think that Ron @ shoreline is an authorised shimano repair person. I'll ask him tonight at the sportshow and get back to this post tomorrow morning.

my email I posted was missing a letter..

On the topic of Japanese reels and lures for that matter... I just happened to stumble upon a couple of internet sites that sold "foreign" gear and I was totally in awe of some of the reels out there. I think that there has been a big push in the US for more aesthetically appeal in reels, but when I saw some of these reels I was drooling at how sweet they looked. Yeah they cost more, but they just plain look cool! And I've seen a handful of other japanese lures (cranks especially) that had amazing detail and innovation. Why are some of these products so slow in getting to the US (if they get here at all)?

Don't get me wrong, I'm as hometown american as they come, but I don't feel that it would be any different importing these items than what is currently taking place. Unfortunately most of our major equipment brand names are already imported...why not some of the "cooler" looking items is all I'm wondering?

Hey Exude if someone did a terrible job on your reels than you should name them as a service to us and punishment to the business that didn't get it right. By naming the business you also give a chance for people who have had a good experience to speak up.

Thanks.

Thanks Exudedude,I appreciate it.

BigMike I agree, the fit and finish seem so much better on the Japanese versions. Like you say most of the stuff we buy is foreign made anyways so why dont they incorporate the best features in the stuff produced for sale in the US. That Scorpion reel I have is the same real sold here as the CU100b but it has extra features like the external adjustable brakes and more metal vs. the plastic components on the US version. It did cost me about $30 more than the US version but the performance is more on par with the $200 chronarch than the Curado.I would buy another one in a heartbeat except for the problem I have with finding someone to work on it ,and finding parts for it.

I had a Scorpion awhile back that I ended up selling. It did seem a bit smoother than the Curado, but not a lot different. If I remember right it was the same size as the 100b with a slightly larger spool capacity. It did have a wiffle spool too. Nice reels for sure.

Basspastor,

I have to disagree on this one. In a forum when one person cant defend himself I dont think its fair to rip a persons buisness. Word of mouth can really hurt a persons buisness, and although at one point that is really what I wanted to do. I dont think its the mature thing to do at this point.

I will tell you that I filed a complaint with the better buisness beureau. I'm sure if you dug you might be able to find it... But dont look to hard its not worth it!

You can try anglers paradise. He moved his shop to trails end bass pro shop in Fridley. I haven't had any problems with his work. I think he has one of the bigger supplys for reel parts. You can talk fishing with him too. He does some local bass tourneys.

Basser-I talked to ron and he said he would be more than happy to work on them for you.. I think he says he charges $15 for baitcasters...However I forgott to ask if he was an authorised shimano repair person... call him and ask him..
