Crappie Question

Recommended Posts

No they don't. In fact, you couldn't even troll over them using micro crank baits as an effective way of covering more water than jigging either. I've never used this method in the summer and fall to catch crappies. wink

Yes they absolutely do, depending on time of day and the time of year ( thermocline or not) they will suspend over deeper water. We do a lot of slip bobbering with the kids closer to the edges of deep water/deep weeds, and we will cast away from the edge over the deeper water and they will slam a minnow/jig over 20 feet of water just 8 feet down.

Last weekend we were fishing on a deep weed edge for bluegills and crappies and we were seeing large schools of crappies surfacing over deep water (25-30') so we would cast where they surfaced and it would be a fish every time! I had never seen this before, but sure was awesome! Only lasted a short time right before sunset.
