As a kid I used lil poppers on the fly rod all the time and caught everything with them, very fun. Thanks for the post reminds me I still have some and know what I'm going to do next time out with the kids.

I have not caught any topwater but I rarely fish that way. I did have one repeatedly chase and hit a bobber one time (3-4 times) when I was drifting with the wind in about 7-8 ft of water pulling a slip bobber rig. It was kind of funny to watch.

We caught probably a dozen gills using a #7 rattlin' raps a couple weekends ago. They were right off of weed edges in about 10FOW, so I doubt it had anything to do with beds in this case. It was a little odd to say the least.
