gonehunting
Looking for a durable insulated minnow bucket. We often travel by snowmobile 10+ miles on LOW or Lake Winnipeg and carry our minnow buckets in our towable otter fishhouses. I have everything secured in milk crates but everything still takes a good bounding. Looking for some ideas on a water tight durable minnow bucket. I've tried the new clam style but have troubles with keeping the rubber o-ring from falling out of place and the lid freezing. Thought about trying a 2 gallon water jug and putting it in a 5 gallon pail. Any ideas?
JSK76
I bought an Engel bait cooler last winter and would say there made very well. I think it would be your best bet.
minneman
Check out picksbigwagon's post on the last page of the "share your favorite ice fishing photos" fourm at the top of the page, posted yesterday. the second photo of his boy with a perch has a wide mouth 1 gal drinking jug as a bait container, I use the same thing it works great and if freezing is an issue with the lid a couple wacks with the big dipper always opened it, heard spraying cooking sray on the threads of the cover would help. good luck finding one of this style, mines 10yrs old. wider the mouth the better. Gus
search Coleman 2-Gallon Party Stacker Jug on amazon. That's what I use. I siliconed it shut at the bottom. It's a nice size. Use some silicone spray on the threads and it doesn't freeze shut. Works great as a leech bath in summer too. I put a half pound or pound leech container in the middle and surround it with ice. Keeps em cool and happy.
toughguy
+3. Those drink coolers work great. Just be sure you keep water off the treads of the lid so it doesn't freeze up. Vaseline or defrosting it over your heater works too.

Beaver15
Best thing I've found. Very Durable. No threads to ice up. Can take a beating over long trips, and won't spill.
Northlander
I use the same type water jug with a screw on top. Works great, never spills and wont break.
