Where is an ideal place to fish for muskie from shore?

Recommended Posts

I'm an avid shore fisherman. I've caught just about every freshwater fish, even sturgeon from shore. However I'm still looking for my first shore muskie.

I think the obvious answer I'm going to get is fishing the rivers, but I'd ideally like to do this task on a muskie lake. Muskie like waters with weed beds around 5 to 12 feet near points and structure from what I understand, so this shouldn't be impossible right?

I'm not looking for anyone's secret spot, but which lakes do you know of that offer (with some exploration) decent muskie fishing from shore? Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Does anyone have extensive knowledge on Lake Rebecca? It looks very intriguing to me. I find it very peculiar that the DNR HSOforum doesn't specifically list Muskie as one of the available species, but according to their fish stocking section they have been regularly stocking the lake with Muskie fingerlings since 2004 which seems promising to me.

Also there was a blurb about this lake containing multiple river species from when there was extensive flooding some years ago, with the possibility of white bass in this lake which excites me since I LOVE to fish for white bass but never find any decent lakes for it in MN.

Anyone who fishes this lake regularly know if the muskie/white bass fishing is half ways decent? I'd like to give it a shot (from shore) but I'm a little over an hour away so I want to make sure the trip is worth my time. It's also near that the Crow River is right around the corner, which I've also never fished. Thanks for the info.

caught a 42" muskie from shore on the namekagon river at the mouth of lake hayward. still my largest fish to date. caught 29" walleye in same place this spring. both were released for another day.

Rebecca in Hennepin has muskies. I fish this lake occasionally when traffic drives me off other metro lakes, but try to avoid it as much as possible for three reasons:

1. It's the brood lake for all metro stocking

2. It's exceptionally weedy with very little shore area fishing

3. Again, its the brood lake for all metro area stocking

When I do fish it, I stick to June and fall because it gets too warm to fish ethically. This lake is best early morning and the first two hours after dark (pack a ton of bug spray).

Indie and Calhoun are tough to beat from shore
