Gentleman, I found morels in my yard today. Stupid question, can I dig completely around them and transplant them to my woods? The woods is next to a cattail slough. Thanks. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I only found like 15, my thought is in transplanting in a no traffic area I might have more in the years to come.Thanks.

I think you need to shake spores in your woods. That's why they encourage the use of onion bags while picking so the spores get spread around. The mushrooms themselves do not regrow. The spores they drop do.

Two years ago we dumped out our rinse water and some crumbly old morels around a dying cottonwood tree in a friends back yard and last year he found a few growing around it. Could have been a coincidence though. And if it were that easy to grow/transplant morels, they wouldn't be worth much at all.

Instead of transplanting would try this approach........if they are browns.....take three or four prime ones and put them in a non metal container with a gallon of water. Add a pinch of salt and a tablespoons of molasses. Cover for a few days, after which spread the water in a shroomy area.......ya might have to wait a few years to see if this is good advice tough smile

I have heard that Morel's are one of the hardest mushrooms to try and cultivate, move or grow. That's why the commercial shroom guys are not growing them like others.
