Day Trip

Looking to fish at least two quality fisheries this weekend, somewhat of a mini trip for my brother and a buddy. Trying to keep it within 2 hoursish of the north metro. Might hop lakes as well. Looking for a quality fishery of either smallies, largemouth, or maybe walleyes. So far the list is:

-Mille Lacs

-Tonka

-EW Rush

-Pool 4

-Hayward area

Any good suggestions? PM if needed. Not looking for a secret spot just a decent trip with quality potential. Thanks.

Mille Lacs would be my first choice if there is not a lot of wind. Tonka is also a great fishery but I expect it to pretty busy with the nice weather and I suspect there will be a lot of bass guys pre fishing for Denny's super 30 on Tonka on the 27th and the Minnetonka Classic on the 31st so I personally will be avoiding Tonka this weekend. Another lake to consider for me would be Green Lake in Spicer. Great smallmouth fishing.

Good Fishing!

If the wind is an issue I would pick Hayward. I will be up there this weekend and there are multiple lake options and both largemouth and smallmouth. I will be chasing Smallies on Grindstone and Round and have caught some big ones in there over the years.

Ended up spending the day on Mille Lacs. Water was 54 on the basin and found 61 as the warmest in a few bays. Caught 7 smallies, one being a little over 4.5lbs and a pair of nice 25" walleyes. Not a bad trip for our first Mille Lacs smallie hunt. Frustrating day though, only found smallies in a 20yd x 20yard spot fishing 8.5 hrs and that was it. Will be back again soon hopefully for a 6 pounder!
