Humminbird 597 ci HD map question

Fuzzy

Question

While using my 597 map page to navigate to a spot on the lake, I will zoom in as I approach the area to see the bottom structure in greater detail. There is often a long delay between the time I push zoom and before the new map in loads. Usually this delay is about 5 seconds but sometimes up to 30 seconds. While waiting the screen goes blank and reads "loading charts" I am using the Lakemaster MN chip.

I am a new Humminbird user, is this delay normal? Is this a issue with the card? The unit? Sometimes the map will not load at all until I take out the card and reinsert it.

I have the same unit. I just updated my unit. It seems to load faster since the update. Make sure you have the newest available software. If you do update make sure you save your waypoints on another sd card because you need to restore factory defaults before updating.

I am also a new hb owner with a 598 and 859. Just want to be clear when updating using sd card I should use a different sd card than what I have in the unit? In addition, can I load updates for both units on one sd card? One last question, when you mark waypoints aren't they automatically saved to your memory card? I'm having the locators installed so I haven't used the units as of yet.

I have navionics hot maps and dont have any issues....3 yrs old

I haven't bought a lake map chip yet because I'm wondering which one to buy. It's kinda odd that HB purchased Lakemaster, but the information in their packaging has Navionics. I've been told that Navionics works better with HB and has more of the smaller lakes. I have the Navionics app on my phone that I've been using, so I've been leaning toward that. Does one have more detail?

i would say the app has more detail than the card but my card is 3 years old and the app is constantly updated like any other app once you have purchased it. i bought the cheapest lake map available way back when and it does not get current updates/upgrades like the app version does. i dont use the lake map card for "spot on spot" stuff, just general map info like contours and such, if the graph shows fish i may stop, if not keep moving.

My unit only has one SD card slot so all the way points are saved to the unit. I think you should be able to update using the same card. The card I use is loaded with music and it worked fine for the update.

The Lakemaster chips will let you use a lot more features on the Humminbird that I don't think you can with a Navionics card like the depth highlight, shallow water highlight, and depth offset.

Lakemaster will also only work with the I Pilot Link.

That should read "Only Lakemaster will work with the ipilot link." Your sentence infers that Lakemaster won't work with anything else.

Waiting to buy latest lake master chip. If a lake isn't included that I fish can I still mark way points? I'm assuming that the only features I can use in this situation is the imaging and sonar and I should buy a paper map to see contour lines.

Yes you can save waypoints. What you will see for an obscure lake can range from just an outline to some contours that were mapped by the state or feds during the depression with a weight on a string, surveying gear and a spud for cutting the holes in the ice.
