Transom Trolling Motor

30lb is definantly big enough for a 14 ft boat. Thats what i have on my small 14fter and i don't have any problems.... But if i had it to do again id get a 45lb thrust. I think you will be happier with the 45- especially with transom mount. Sometimes its easier to go in reverse with a transom mount and the 45 would be better for that alone, much less the extra kick going forward

looking at the Reeds HSOforum:

Minnkota Endura Transom Mount

30 pound $109

40 pound $169

45 pound $189

Bass Pro Shops chart I looked up said for a 14 foot boat 32 pounds is required which I assume is the minimum for normal function and use. Obviously type of of boat, weight of motor etc matters if you are putting more than average weight in it. I'd assume a 9.9 or 15 horse 4 stroke motor and 400 pounds of people gear is "average." I believe those motor weigh about 110 pounds. I'd probably get the 40 pound.

Next thing is do you want to step up to a different model which generally offers a few things and may have some type of "maximizer" that lowers batter usage. In my case in the past I decided to spend extra money on a top end battery and stick with a lower prices trolling motor. It depends on what your use is

Personally, I would not go any less than the 45pd. I have a 45pd bow mounted on my 16' boat and it is just barely enough. I've thought about upgrading for some time now but can't seem to convince myself to open my wallet.

Something to consider. Go bigger than you think you need, especially with a transom mount. It takes a lot more work to steer a boat from the rear than to pull the front end around. I had a 40pd transom mounted on my Lund Rebel 16 and although it worked, I often wish I had a 55 on there.

Yep, go with the highest thrust you can get away with and afford. If you fish during rough windy days or fish rivers with current you will want the max thrust for handling purposes and the higher thrust will not have to work as hard which should draw less and keep your battery fresh longer while on the water.

I have an older, modified fishing boat. I put a 40lb Endura on it and it is greatly underpowered, esp. with any type of wind. Wish I had kept my older 27 lb. one, since it worked better. Even put a 4 bladed prop on the Endura, but no help. Listen to all the experienced owners who have written in and get at least a 45 lb. I haven't had a maximizer type so I don't know if they are better or not. The comment made about the battery is really true, since the Endura usually needs to be on a higher speed to do anything and runs the battery down quickly. Good luck with your choice.

I would for sure get at least a 50 or 55 pound thrust motor if I were you. Variable speed instead of 5 speed. When I used to use an endura with 5 speeds it was hard to get the right speed a lot of the time. I looked at transom mounts on the minn kota HSOforum and they have a new model of endura with variable speed and digital maximizer. If I was in your position I would probably be considering that one.

It was tough to turn down the price of the endura 30lb but I purchased the 45lb it was tough because the lake we have a cabin on is fairly small so I think the smaller one would have been good but it sounded like most of you guy's would get the bigger one! Now I'm ready to do some fishing whenever the ice melts!! Thanks again to all for your insight. I know I'll be happy with it..

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
