Amsoil? Help Please

Buck_Hunter04

Question

So I have a 2 stroke outboard and have been using Quicksilver for years mixed with Premium gas. Ratio 50:1. 25 Hp Mariner Problem is it seems like half way thru the year my spark plugs begin to get oily and begin to run rough. I know I'm mixing it right. The question I have is will it make a difference to move to Amsoil to reduce some of this problem and maybe some smoke? Any information will be greatfully appreciated. Also, does it seem to work better in Strikemaster augers as well? Thanks

Buck- I use Amsoil Saber at 90-1 in both my Yamaha 25 hp two stroke and my Strikemaster Lazer Mag Express with the Tecumseh engine. Couldn't be happier. Very little smoke and no fouled plugs.

My neighbor has a mid 80s mercury 20 or 25 hp. he could not get it to troll it would load up smoke and it was having a hard time planning out. I could tell he was mixing his oil to heave. I suggested using Amsoil Saber marine. after the first tank it was like a different motor. Now I don't have listen to him complain about mercury motors any more.

Thanks guys, the info is great! Guess I'm just not sure which one to use and at what ratio. I see they make a couple different ones for 2 strokes. Little scared that I will burn something up. Mercury/Mariner mid 80's. Basically the same outboard I've been told. thanks again guys

For your auger use Saber Professional, product code ATP (for all air-cooled 2-cycle pre-mix engines). You can mix as lean as 100-1, but many prefer to mix richer at 80-1 or 50-1.

For your 2-cycle outboard, AMSOIL now has 3 choices:

1. as pre-mix only Saber Outboard, product code ATO as lean as 100-1 but some use it richer.

2. HP Marine product code HPM, AMSOIL's premium synthetic marine oil, can be used as injector oil or as 50-1 premix.

3. Syn 2-stroke Injector Oil, product code AIO, can be used as injector oil or as 50-1 premix (a slightly lower quality product than HPM at a lower price).

New richmond UH? i am out by willmar weekends and do outboard motor work. The fouled plugs?Changing oils wont solve your problem. Are you sure your using the right plugs? 25HP do you troll it down often? that causes fouling of plugs sooner than most think. There are a few steps you can take to find the problem.Just changing lubricants solves little. There has to be a reason their fouling out.Once thats discovered then use any oils mixed as you choose.Till then find the problem.PM me I might have suggestions but the plugs, oil mix, carb jets all play a part in fouling out.It hasen't anything with which oils you choose to use.

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
