Creating "Structure"

For the record when starting this topic all that entered my thought was "natural items" like rocks & maybe local tree limbs. To think up anything else would be sacrilege to me, but I know not all people think alike.

When mother nature dropped a tree on my shore, I helped her by moving it slightly. Also when she drops limbs or twigs, I likewise help her. There is a pretty decent perfect habitat area within casting distance of a certain dock... It is better than pulling it from the lake and throwing on shore. The fish sure like it, and not one limb has saw marks on it.

I only fish 3-4 lakes in a normal year. One is very small and I could potentially see me adding some structure yielding some results but even on that small lake that is generally bowl like the amount of weeds, beaver houses with it's own structure, drop offs etc I can't see my effort creating structure pulling many fish from the structure already present.

In the larger lakes there is so much competing structure available naturally that the work would yield even worse results.

I find this conversation similar to making food plots for deer or other animals. It's a fun endeavor to do and at times can be helpful but depending on the current area you are in the results could be limited.

That looks like a typical day of fishing the river or Lura Lake when I was younger."

The fish on my line was my bait.

Camped on Lake Lura a couple of summers ago when my sister married a guy from that area. Seemed like a nice lake, but it was still only June.

When I was in HS in the 80's we spent pretty much every weekend out there. I liked to water ski and that lake was notorious for having trees floating around in it which really made things interesting. One lap around the lake you would see one floating in a certain spot, then the boat goes by, it sinks and later it pops up in another spot. And hooking them while trolling using a daredevil was an experience as well. No light tackle.
