orioles and finches

Just wondering when the orioles and finches start showing up in the spring? Im trying to decide when to put out my grape jelly and thistle seed. I know they say the finches stay all winter, but ours all disappeared back in September. Thanks

We would starting putting out jelly and oranges right around opening of fishing. This year may be a bit later but was always a good starting point

Hopefully the first part of May for the orioles. House and purple are staring to show up more here. Goldies never left but probably more soon.

In the winter goldfinches are really drab.

May 5th is about the average for orioles and rosebreasted grossbeaks here in southern MN.

My first Oriole along with my first Hummer was May 15 last year with a Grosbeak 2 days earlier. But then, my yard isn't the first choice around here.

The first oriole here last year was May 9th and May 3rd in 2012. Writing that column has been good for something. They typically seem to come at the ranch from May 5th - 10th with the rose-breasted grosbeaks usually ahead of them by a few days.
