Well Cap

Recommended Posts

In this most recent snow storm, I had a friend come and plow my driveway. In the process, the well cap was run over. The plastic PVC pipe was broken off to ground level. The wiring is still intact. So far, there is no loss to water pressure; everything seems to be working okay. I have stuffed the top of the pipe to prevent anything from going down, and have covered that with a bucket.

Now, what are my options to fix? Can it be a DIY job, or what type of professional should I be calling?

Any idea of cost estimates to fix?

Thank you for any help.

Thats the main reason I put a cast iron pitiless on instead of PVC. Its easy, when the ground thaws dig around it till the casing is no longer cracked. Get a 5'' or 6'' PVC repair coupling (or whatever diameter your well is) glue it on and you might have to go to a well driller to get a top part for the wires to go into. Or maybe that part survived without damage. Im sure you broke the conduit for the wires also but that stuff it pretty self explanatory

Well yes contamanation is a threat if surface water runs into the pipe or seeps into a stress crack in the PVC. Get to is ASAP. When you do get to it drop a cup or 2 of bleech down the pipe followed by couple 5 gallon pales of fresh water.

You're right. I failed to mention to make sure to protect it down below the split in the pipe. It also occurs to me that it is entirely possible the split goes further down than one might think. I'd consider this.

As far as contamination let's put it this way. Would you drink the water that is flowing over the ground around that well casing?
