Bear Bait

Recommended Posts

Might be a little early for this topic. But this is going to be my 1st time hunting bears. I'm having a hard time trying to find places that give out scraps. I've tried the bakeries at Cub, Rainbow and Festival Foods and a couple other small ma and pa bakeries. It seems like everyone gives to charities here in the cities, which is a great thing! So what are some other options that I could do without spending alot of cash and that is effective.

This time of year you can look for dry food stuffs (feed companies) that will keep, or things you can freeze i;e, meat scraps, fish from dead lakes! wink When it's during or close to the season go to some of the produce companies and see what they have. We ended up with skids of veggies that they were going to just throw out. wink

In Buckman mn there is a place that sells bulk bait at a cheep price but they don't have bait there till July .

I was going to suggest there but since he is from St Paul I wasn't sure he would drive up there?

Yes I would be hunting in the no quota zone. Since I will be hunting state land I can't use drums. So I'm left with digging a pit. How big should I go? I read bigger is better, but also read to keep it small cause it causes more compitition. Between a buddy and me we will be able to bait just about every other day if that makes a difference on how big.

i went to the duluth deer expo and saw Northwoods Bear Products. Something to check out. I never have used them but might give them a try if i pull a tag.

Scents work good to bring in near by Bears but if they don't find any food, bait when they get there and your gone. They will move on.
