MN fishing license date change

Yes quite the rip off to pay as low as 15 bucks for 2 months of fishing. If it's too much no one is forcing you to buy them. Maybe they need tissues at the registers for all the whiners who don't think it's fair. Get over it.

no one is forcing anyone to purchase a full license for 2 months, that is consumer choice, and if consumer does not like that choice, there are other choices, 1 day, 3 day, 1 week, etc. but sure one would find a reason to complain bout those as well, whiners b whiners.

So the state sits on the fee's from this budget cycle and collects intrest on all the license fees collected?Do they do that with all revenue they "collect"?I've been looking at the budget annalysis reports and can't seem to find any info on intrest accrued on revenue from the tax/fees or the like?c63

They have to pay it out in salaries and expenses. Unless there is some kind of special deal for gov't that I don't know about, there is no such thing as interest anymore. Money in the bank earns next to nothing.

The other thing I thought of with a 365 day lic. is that someone that only fished for a week a year (mostly non-residents) could get away with fishing every year but only buying a lic. every other year by moving their dates slightly. Example: vacation here the first week in July and coming back the next year during the last week of June and only buying one license.

Under the system the last couple of years a group from out of state can come in and fish for a 5 day weekend in March and purchase annual licenses. Those licenses were good till April 30 of the next year. They can come back the next march and not buy another license.

How much that happened or would happen - I don't know, but it needs to be considered.

A resident individual angling is $22 and $15 for the conservation license. If a person can't come up with that, they really shouldn't be fishing.

A 365 day license could cost the DNR revenue and it would also lead to CO's having to deal with many more well-meaning people who merely forgot to get a license. Was it intentional or not? Do you write them a ticket or not? This would take time that could be used to go after people intentionally violating; over-limits, double-trippers, slot violations, extra lines......etc...

I think they changed it to the end of april so you didn't have to get a new license while people were still fishing the hardwater season.

Bingo.

Unfortunately people were too dense to figure it out and they had to change it back.

I never had an issue with it, but if the government wouldn't have put two dates on the license nobody would have had a problem.

Yeah, I'd like to know why the DNR did that. It sure didn't help, but it still wasn't that difficult to figure out. Everyone got two months "free" that first year to get the new, later expiration date into place and everyone lost their minds. crazy

Buying a license allows you the priviledge of fishing/hunting a period of time depending on your interests. No one makes you buy a license.

Minnesota fishing licenses run Mar 1, 2014 - last day of Feb. - Resident ind. is $22 - Married combination is $35.

North Dakota fishing license run April 1 - Mar. 31 - Res. fee is $16 - Hus/wife is $22 - Non-Res fee is $45 - Hus/wife - $60 plus $2 certificate fee.

South Dakota fishing license run Dec. 13, 2013 to Jan. 31, 2015 Res. fee is $28 each(no hus/wife available) Non-res fee is $67(3 day is $37)

Ontario, Canada for 2014 non-res fee is $81.57 plus $9.68 for a required Outdoors card for indentification. Passport is necessary.

Where ever you go to fish and hunt requires a proper license. Rules are sometimes confusing, such as the many slot limits across Minnesota, BUT you had better know the rules.

I am lucky enough to fish Mn. - SD - ND - Wis. - Manitoba and Ontario, and hunt in Mn. - SD - Kansas - Wyoming and Montana. I spend alot on licenses and required stamps / it's what I enjoy. Each has it's own set of rules/regulations.

I hope we all can do what we enjoy whatever it is, but not much is free nowdays.

If you have vehicles, atvs, snowmobiles, motorcycles, canoes, boats, trailers and fish or hunt you buy many licenses. If you golf or ski/snowboard there is a fee to use facilities.

Many attractions have daily or seasonal fees. If you camp or stay at a resort you pay.

All is all we pay a good portion of our earnings to do the things we enjoy - it is all fair - who knows, but it is a way of life.

I did buy a Lifetime Sportsman license 2 years ago before they raised the prices. You still have to get the paper one printed out and carry with you, so you still need to know the dates. It just doesn't cost you anything. I even took the option of adding the lifetime trapping for free. I have never trapped in my life but you never know. Now if they can only figure out how to have the Federal Duck Stamp available when you get the new license in the spring, I'd be sitting pretty.

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
