Channel 5 interview w/ MNDHA president

Recommended Posts

Channel 5 had an interview with head of MNDHA tonight. I am having trouble getting the video loaded up on here so here is the HSOforum. The video deals mostly with deer feeding.

there is also this link at the bottom of the page.

Please write comments to them and take their survey. I will be writing, calling, and doing whatever to push for high deer population in the NE part of the state where I hunt. Zone 172.

I believe they will run the story again tonight at 10 and 1030.

I cant find it either. Hopefully I will have enough time in the morning and I can make some phone calls.

I will be writing a letter to:

Leslie McInenly, DNR, Box 20, 500 Lafayette Road, Saint Paul, MN 55155.

I will be making copies for everyone in my hunting party as well and urging them to send it too.

You would think the dingbats would get with the 21st century and get an email address.

They cant hear from us enough as far as I am concerned, and I hope next year they take into account the summer growing conditions and rainfall.

She's a state employee, and thus has a state email address that's public information (and a simple search away)

I didn't know deer liked alfalfa pallets.....LOLLLL

He said that a few times during the interview.

I would assume that means "pellets", not pallets. There's a lot of people in the state that have slightly different pronunciations for various words.

MDHA was founded in the early '70's because of the '71 closing of deer season, they organized for the very fact to feed deer if winters got severe enough, it's one of their main sales pitches to get you to join and their proud of it. Fifty years later and on average every 10 years emergency feeding could be done and the great Mn. deer organization can't even get it accomplished they have to go on tv and beg the DNR, on top of that MDHA in the recent past is against supplemental feeding. Worthless organization.

Actually, MDHA was formed after those people organized and got funding to feed deer. It was those people in the northern part of the state that created the organization to broaden the scope of their support for deer.

I believe MDHA's position is against supplemental feeding (which often does more harm than good) except in extreme circumstances, which is what we are getting into at this point. The organization still has to go through the DNR and legislature to accomplish any supplemental feeding, which is exactly what they are working on. It's not an instant thing to pull out hundreds of thousands of dollars from the DNR's fund to feed deer until things green up again. These things take time.

Worthless? Please name another organization doing anything - heck, even attempting to do anything?

For an organization that has a permanent tattoo on their rear end saying "DNR was here" one would think they would have an agreement in place since it would only be used once or twice every ten years or so, to go ahead and feed the deer. Personally i think it's a publicity stunt, the DNR is saying it isn't severe enough now (to feed) but most likely will feed in the near future and MDHA is trying to make itself look good to say they "forced the DNR to feed" now join MDHA because we saved the deer!

Maybe they will be able to pass scopes on muzzleloaders one of these years. LOL!

do you think they haven't been trying? That change must go through legislation, and there's one person in the state legislature that has the power to stop such a bill. It's been in multiple bills every year for a few years now, and never goes through.

After spending $10 million on CWD and Bovine TB eradication and monitoring over a few short years, you'll have to pardon the DNR for not wanting to concentrate deer and increase animal contact.

At the same time it just might get so bad that there wont be any deer to worry about getting CWD or TB cause they all died from starvation before they could get infected. I am not as worried about the cold as I have been worried about the deep snow.

If there is a big rainy day slush fund just sitting there specifically to feed the deer I think they should start feeding right away. I would be willing to take the chance with the deer in my area. I was up about a month ago and dropped some trees for them. Would like to get up once more and drop another dozen or two for them to chew on.

You have to remember this winter is what we used to have in the 60's 70's and 80's...
