Happy New Year everyone!!!! I made a boneless prime rib roast this afternoon, had some ranch style beans, raw broccoli, and a couple ginger snaps for dessert. I do like the tail and steak picture, being on a diet, this was the first big red meat dinner for me. Dogs are wishing they could have a taste. Be safe everyone.

Nice. Happy NY! We had lots of traditional appetizers and then beer battered pike from the year to date catch on our tip ups. Thanks kids! Good stuff. I introduced the kids (6 and 9) to lobster and crab at Red Lobster a few days ago. Got the ultimate feast platter and we split it three ways with lots of cheese biscuits. Good times. Kind of an inside story but the BIL introduced the kids to walleye a year ago at a restaurant and now when we go to the local Legion, they all of a sudden want to skip the kids meal cheeseburger and order walleye. Geez. lol.

Great pic Eyeguy. You sure seem to have the knack. Like your posts. We decided to have our meal today. We are doing lobster tails too. Now I am thinking of doing a strip too after seeing your meal.

Did you boil your tails? If so for how long?

Happy New Year to all....

Wifey and I started this new tradition last year. 5 bucks for each tail and 5 bucks for each 12 oz new york strip at coborns. grilled the steak outside and boiled the tails. the chart I found said boil 1 minute per oz of tails. had 9 oz with the 2 tails so boiled 9 minutes. grilled the tails last year but boiled this year. easier and the house smelled GREAT lol. tried the winter lager from sam adams. mmmmmm!

Lol.....had the 5 dollar cobobs strip as well last night Tipped it up though and caramelized them in an oyster/ginger sauce. Surfed some 20 count shrimp along with lemongrass, tamarind, and chile. Had some smaller chanterelles saved from this summer and stuffed them with some some caramelized onion and bacon stuffing. Jr picked and helped make the the appetizer and desert .....those cream cheese pastrami pickle thingies and bananna splits. Told him he could have anything to drink last night as well. He said beer.....so we compromised on his first ever 20 oz classic coke. He was bouncing off the walls while we watched the Croods smile

We too had lobster tails (4 from Cub) and a ribeye we bought at the local meat market. Grilled them all. Steak had my own rub on it and I too used butter with lemon juice, coriander, garlic, champagne and cayenne. Put some of the butter sauce on the tails and served the rest heated at the table. Champagne was the wife's idea to drink so I thought why not add a little to the sauce? laugh No veggies but had strawberries too

Did up some of the lobster tails last year with ribeye steak, the wife wasn't impressed with the tails - but shes not as big a fish eater as I am - so this year just went with some T-bones, a salad, some Rice a roni, and a bottle of Asti. All good!! Steaks turned out great, medium rare for me and hers just pink. "They're huge" was her comment but we both ended up finishing them up.

Have to admit though after seeing your pics that the lobster tails may be back on the menu next year....

Happy New Year all!!

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
