Wheel House license and name

harvey lee

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a wheel house.

I purchased the shelter license and am wondering how one affixes the blue DNR tag, no adhesive so does one just tie strap itm on? Better way the the suggested tie strap it states on the shelter license?

Also, do I need to place my name and adress on the door or is the name on the shelter tag good enough?

Thanks

Harvey, you do NOT have to put your name and number on the shelter anymore. Just the House Tag. You can also keep the tag in the house somewhere and get actual number stickers to put your DNR number on the house, like you would do with a boat.

If you bought an IC, they have screen windows, you could, if you wanted, just slide it between the screen and the glass. However i would go with the DNR number on 2 inch sticker.

• All shelters, except for occupied* portable shelters, placed on the ice

of Minnesota waters must have either the

(1) complete name and address, (2) driver’s license number, or (3) the nine-digit Minnesota DNR number on the license of the owner plainly and legibly displayed on the outside in letters, and figures at least

2 inches in height. *A person using a portable shelter on the ice that does not display identification must remain within 200’ of the shelter.

• A shelter may not be left unoccupied or unattended anytime between midnight and one hour prior to sunrise unless the shelter is licensed.

Was just looking for that CAMAN. Thanks.

As you can see you can just put 2" numbers on, and your set, however you should throw the shelter registration in the draw in your house, just incase.

Is this correct? If I display my DNR # I dont have to dispaly my shelter tag?

I will add this to what I posted earlier...

From page 80 of the 2013 regs

"• A tag, furnished with a license, must be attached to the exterior in a readily visible location."

Now what is confusing is immediately before they say that, they talk about the trailer used to haul the shelter must be registered etc. So are they talking about the trailer tag or the shelter tag? It seems like they jump around a bit

I have not read this years entire regs, but unless something changed we were able to post our DNR number ONLY, but had to keep the reg tag in the house if a CO asked for it. If not, i wonder why they dont make them adhesive like the boat tags that have to go on next to the numbers.

Plus, i dont understand how that works..if there are no windows, how is a guy gonna display his tag if it doesnt stick to the house? Tie it to something where anyone could come buy and rip it off? I dont see them making us do that. but i was wrong once before...a longgggg time ago.(15 minutes)

I thought you would never buy a wheel house, Harvey lee.

I have no windows, I used super glue on the back side to stick it onto the house. I lost one license by just taping it on. It Cost $2.50 for the seconded one. The tag on the outside has been around forever, other wise they would have to run each DNR # to see if you bought a license that year.

Harv, I just put the snomobile style numbers for my DNR # above my door centered it there and then tape up my liscense to the window next to the door. They can read both just fine. I will say to tape it while it is cold or before the weather starts turning cold... if there is any condensation on the window you're up a creek... I haven't had any issues yet that way. Someone said they fade and yes they do! Mine is hard to read after one season! I don't point mine into the sun though either so maybe that helps? I would imagine we don't need to guess there all your spare time is going to be spent in the winter now! Race shop and the lake (any lake you can access)!!!

I got two tickets last season on Tonka from a CO while I was not in the house. I bought the shelter license and kept it inside the house. I don't know where the CO put the tickets he issued, but I never got them. I didn't even know about them until I got a late payment notice from the court. I paid the ticket as I didn't have time to see a hearing officer who I'm sure would've done something when I showed him I had the shelter license. I then got another late notice and called the court to tell them I already paid it. I then found out there was another ticket out there for a week later.

I don't know how I am going to put my license on this year, but I did have my DNR # on the outside next to the door.

Ken and Eric, I purchased one as my 2 granddaughter's want to ice fish. I figure they would enjoy and outing much more if we were in a nicer house than a portable. At 8 and 12, I did not figure they would weant to spend alot of time in my portable but the older one has a few times already. They like the perm mucho better.

Spent the aft today with them and they asked if we could stay a night next Friday, so I guess we are going to have a pizza party and a sleep over in the house.

I put my tag and DNR number tapped to the inside glass of the window so the CO can see it is licensed and the DNR number, I should be golden.

I cut vinyl decals so I just made a yellow coroplast sign 24"x6" and stuck 2" lettering of my drivers license # and screwed it to the top of my door and I also put my shelter tag in a ziplock baggie and just staple it to the door...doesn't fade and is easily readable to dnr!

The Home Depot uses vinyl pouches to hang price tags from merchandise, the larger ones are the perfect size the shelter tags. I asked a sales person for one a couple years ago and they gave me 3. I attached it to the door with 2 sided tape. I put a new one on this year because the old one got brittle from the weather. I mounted it with the opening pointed down so snow & water wouldn't get in, then have a small piece of clear duct tape on the opening.

Does it say on the Minnesota shelter tag how/where to place the tag on the shelter? I couldn't find any info about it in the DNR fishing regs. The only thing I see appears to be talking about a license and tag in regards to a trailer license for wheel houses.

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
