What type of bird ?

I found this guy in the snow not getting around very well.

kinda looks like a gray jay, or camp robber. but it looks to small, how big is it, bigger than a blue jay?

northern shriek?

very similar in size to a blue jay.

Wow. Those things impale their prey on barbed wire. I've seen just one in my life. Cool find. I hope he survives.

yeah, northern shrike. I would guess he won't eat that corn. they eat other birds.

put a piece of meat out or suet ball? catch a mouse in a trap and put it out?

Last week, I had a Northern Shrike sit in a birch tree monitoring what was going on below my feeder. Sure enough, he nose dived twice to get the shrews that were coming out of the snow to eat sunflower seeds below the feeder. He pecked at the shrews until they were wounded and then carried them off to a remote tree. Pretty cool, never saw one before, let alone seeing him feeding on shrews.
