bak2MN
I have bought a 8x10 aluminum skid house I have a 500 sportsman with chains. What is your thoughts on this pulling it ok on the lake? Also was wondering if a snowmobile would pull this? Haven't had it out yet and worried it wont pull it. Any thoughts?
dairyman
If we just had ice on the lake I wouldn't see a problem BUT--we have snow and pockets of slush. There may be more then one cuss word. I would check the lake out first before hauling it to the lake. I came off a lake earlier in the week and I wasn't towing anything and was happy to just get off the lake(400 sportsman with chains) I told the wife the only way I would try the lake again would be chains on the front too. fishingstar
The only a snowmobile would pull it is if it had studs. I did it for a few years with a lot of studs. If you get it going you might be fine.Dan
Duckfisher
I just purchased an 8x10 also and am wondering the same. Let me know what happens, i will not get to use it till the 29th.
Pleasant
if the cold today and tomorrow can firm things up maybe all will be well, yesterday I did some buzzing around with both the snowmobile and the 4 wheeler on area lakes with some friends and as Dairyman said lucky to get off with just the machine let alone pulling anything. Good Luck!
GoneFish'n71
If you have the funds available, tracks on your sportsman will take you anywhere you want to go.
Princeton
I pulled my 8x12 out yesterday, luckily I did not have any slush to deal with, but did have 10 inches of snow. I have diamond patterned studded chains the back tires on my 350 big bear. I usually load up the back rack with 100+ pounds. I would suggest pre running the path to make sure there is no slush as I could not imagine what kind of issues you could get yousself into if you hit slush and it was well below freezing! The big thing for me is getting the house moving, once it gets moving it seems to pull fine. An 8x10 would be even easier.
bak2MN
Thanks. Thinking on putting chains on the front today as well?
outkast7222
I have 4 link chains on the front and 2 link chains on the rear of my Xplorer and it is basically unstoppable in the snow. Fronts are well worth it.
Duckfisher
Thanks for the good news! What do you other owners do with the houses on the lake, do you block the house up at all to keep the house away from the slush? Have you ever had the skis frozen down? Princeton
I block mine up unless I am going to move it that day. Never had the skies freeze down.
Pleasant
oh yeah Mine is blocked up 6.5-7 inches above the slush, you deal with a frozen down house once or twice you learn quickly
Duckfisher
I figured, what do you block it up with? Just 4x4 timers I would guess? How many each side, I didn't know if the floor was sturdy enough to just block on each end?
riverview
I have a 6x10 v front aluma lite I put the plastic on the skis it pulls super easy. last weekend I had it behind my samurai and got stuck. I unhooked it and pushed it back by hand 10 feet then backed out rehooked to get a run at the drift. I am very impressed with the house. bak2MN
riverview, where and what type of plastic did you put on your skis? I have been trying to just pull this around the yard to work out all the bugs of pulling and loading it and it is a pain!! Plastic on the skis would help out a lot. Also how did you attach it to your skis? Thanks
riverview
I put 1x4 ceder on the walls 32 inches off the floor to attach shelve and rod holders too and 1x4 above the windows to hang stuff from. installed a 12 volt ceiling fan it is a huge improvement over my otter. Duckfisher
I definitely going to have to do something for hangers. Looking at ceiling fans now. Still curious to how many points of contact I need when blocking house? Any suggestions?

Princeton
I would ask the dealer where you purchased the house from. My dealer installed it on my aluma lite.
Duckfisher
I had the plastic installed when I bought it. I would suggest an UHMW plastic or for a little more money you could go with a nylon which would last longer if used on a lot of gravel.
