Vexilar FLX-28 vs. Marcum LX-7

Sorry. I have to. I bought an FLX-28 a couple weeks ago. I haven't used it yet, but I'm having some second thoughts. I probably won't buy another flasher for a long time… Should I have gone with the LX-7?

No matter which flasher you buy, you always will question if you should have bought the competitors and wondering if you are missing out. Its human nature.

If you don't plan on buying another one for a long time, then IMO you purchased the right one.

Never had the 7 but owned a 6. I bought a 28 this year and have only had it on the ice once this year so far. No complaints so far. I think you will be happy. Take the time and play with it. Not just once but several times. I hated my 6 at first but then after using it multiple times I fell in love but then my stuff was stolen and I replaced it with the 28

The LX7 sucks the screen freezes up and its all pixeliaed but the vexilars don't do that and they last a long time you made a excellent choice

I am starting my second full season with the unit and have not seen this either. I have owned an FL8, FL18, ICE55 and now the LX7. They are all good units and do their job.

I'll be the third guy to say I have never seen anything like this, and my screen is extremely sharp and clear.

i do however love when a person has an issue with their product (regardless of brand) they immediately start spouting off and calling for the competitors brand... heaven for bid they may have a faulty unit, (shhhh all brands occasionally have one) or even the unthinkable user error....... crycrycry

Sounds like the LCD heater is not functioning properly and the cold has caused damage. Call up customer support.

I finally got to use my new LX7 yesterday and all I can say is "WOW" I love this thing. Took about 5 minutes to figure out what screen options I wanted and make all adjustments as far as sensitivity etc. The only problem I have is my charger won't turn green but the voltage reads HI V on gauge so I guess it is working. I have not been able to look at the vex 28 for comparison.

I have the LX7 myself, and I've found that if I don't charge my unit for a while or if the battery is really low that it takes a looooooong time for the charger to turn green. Eventually though, it always does. We're talking like 36 hours long though.

It would really be nice if there was a direct comparison on paper. It's difficult to compare the two just based off of the company HSOforum, since they dilute the facts with their own jargon (target id, target separation, etc.).

Just bought a 28 Friday night and have been out a couple times now. Like it so much I am going to sell my 20 & 22 and get 2 more 28`s.Didn`t think I would ever get rid of the 22 because it works so well in shallow water.

See I wasn't a fan of the 28 in shallow water actually. Maybe I just need to work with changing up the settings a bit. What settings were you using in shallow?

What i noticed between the marcum and the Vex is that the marks seem to be finer on the Marcum and that I could see more detail(closer marks) other then that I dont have any complaints about the Vex so far

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
