Showdown owners

How many Showdown owners feel like they are being abandoned?

When was the last upgrade? I guess i see it as a way to phase it out. I love my showdown. But it gets no talk or hype. I can see that the lx6 and 7 are the big guns, but they also carry a big price. I know it needs to be sent in to upgrade but some new and fresh features would keep the interest.

A couple things i can think of would be a battery level meter and a split screen to show full depth spectrum AND zoom view.

IMO the upgrades were for the most part fixing many of the flaws. Never did the showdown I own work like it should have until the last update to the 5.6. Once I had that update it actually was a fairly good sonar. Every once in awhile it was hard to get the settings dialed in if the auto mode didn't work. I sold it about a month ago after 3 updates I was glad no more were coming thing was kinda a money pit in that aspect. I will admit they do have it working 1million times better then when the first units came out.

If you want a battery meter retro fit a vex one to the bottom front of battery box.

Could be part of Darwin's Origin of Flasher Species that modern day ice fisherman have innate/dna embedded need to sit and stare at loud bright colors in a unnatural circular pattern. Guess I don't really know if they could even upgrade much more on the unit. Suppose color would be nice, but the grayscale already gives insight to the size and distance of the fish, you can even see the difference between the small vs large sniffers vs the circling very interested fish; not to mention incredible separation. Probably a case of they just did not sell that well wink

Probably is the sales thing. One one hand they make a lot more sense than the round dial flashers in that they show things the way they really are from bottom to top vs. bent around a circle but I suppose it is hard to justify promoting them when you have a new flashy thingy that you can sell for 2x the price per unit when people are willing to pay it.

Thanks for everyones input. I'm definately not slamming Marcum. I think they are much better than Vex. IMO. I justbought a an LX7. But like my showdown also. Just dont see that it would be that difficult to split the screen to see the zoom and full water column . I work in the electronics field and understand that its hard to spend R&D time on old technology when the latest and greatest is competing for top honors.

Just keep up the good work MARCUM!!

my first ice finder was a troller, absolutely loved that little thing & it worked very well, got a HB 597 for the boat & I discovered it was hard water capable, it shows so much more info (including gps) than the showdown, I saw no reason to keep it and wanted to move it b4 became a dinosaur so got rid of it last year. I do believe there is a place for them in the market but the value (bang for buck) is about half of their retail price IMO.

X2 well said. I believe when it came out from aqua vu has the VPG it was half the cost.
