onthefly
Anyone have advice on how to get good, pre-scouted fields from guides? Obviously you won't get "A spots" unless they aren't going to hunt it for whatever reason.Anyway, just looking for pointers. I like hunting fields, just don't have great access
walleye18
spend the time scouting and get out to talk to the land owners....why pay when you can do it all yourself?
onthefly
I'd rather not bore you all with details about why I am not scouting and nocking on doors...Just wondering if anyone's done this before and if they have any tips for someone thinking about doing it
Todd Caswell
Nope never done it and never will
mallardnwalleye
Offer to Pay the guide and he might do it.He runs the risk of you bird doging his spot, being disrespectful of the privilege or the land owner going .....who's that?? Cover those bases and pay well.I never would do it but I understand people have time issues that prevent them from Getting high quality fields. Good luck
CANOPY SAM
I'd be really surprised if a guide who'd paid high buck to lease a field for a year would sub-lease it to anyone else. Really surprised!
onthefly
I would also be surprised if I didn't know better... They routinely do "unguided" hunts were you basically rent a field and use your own equipment. But, I did this once in the past and saw a lot of traffic, but didn't get shooting because birds were piling into a field across the road. Makes me think the guides don't try to put you on the X when you go unguided, but instead just put you where they know you'll see traffic. If anyone wants to team up in a field near the metro, just let me know! Really just trying to see if I like field hunting more than water before I invest the time/effort to scout and secure fields. And, invest in decoys/equipment to do it more effectively! Yes, People have been doing this for a while now. You Bring your own Decoys and Gear and they drop you at the Field.
Maxxed Out
I can't speak for everyone only myself. My goal is for people to have a great day in the field with us guided or un guided. Make no mistake about it our guided clients are going to get the best fields. I'm very upfront with field rentals about that. That being said we always put our field rentals in a spot where we feel they will have the opportunity to shoot birds. It's on them to do the rest. We have a very nice client list that just do field rentals from us, not guided hunts.
