Bernie Keefe
Zippo Hand WarmersI have had the opportunity to use the Zippo Hand Warmers. Let me tell you, these things work marvelously! Very compact at about 4" x 5", they fit easily into a pocket of any shirt, or jacket. To start it heating is a simple matter of filling it with lighter fluid, then capping it, and heating the element for a couple minutes. Once heated, there is no flame, but if you let it sit inside it's case for a couple minutes you will feel it heat up.Since there is no flame, it is safe to put in a pocket. I have found when fishing that after I hook and reel in my fish, that my hands are wet and cold. This product is very efficient at warming my hands up after I dry them off! I can also see where I will be using it in the lower back pocket of my shirts to keep my lower back from tightening up in the winter out in the snow and ice. It's cost is less than a good pair of gloves, and I can honestly say that I don't know how it couldn't be called a necessity for me and my business!Simply put, this unit functions well and does the job when I need portable, compact heat anywhere and anytime that I need it. Lusid
I posted a YT video of this a while back. I'm excited to try it out on the ice.. but the usage of a fuel hopefully doesn't get messy.
MNice
Couldn't agree more.. Way better than the old jon-e-warmers.
dfeste
I tried mine a couple of times. They do heat up nice but they stink so bad I don't want to use them while fishing. I like the idea but I can't imagine the smell of lighter fluid all over your lures does a lot for fishing success.

I believe you're filling it up too much or something isn't positioned properly, they smell slightly when first started but then you should hardly notice a smell when warmed up and operating. Ron Vroom
How does it differ from the Jon-E warmer?
Bernie Keefe
I only fill mine to the 6 hour mark and have not had a problem with fuel spillage not the odor. I have been fishing Salmon early in the morning and these things have really been a blessing. Salmon are very picky about odors.
Walleyehooker
These look like the old ones that were around many years ago. The biggest thing is not to overfill them or they will leak out and stink. Same thing happens with zippo lighters when you over fill them. Lusid
When I see people complaining about an item, the instructions specify not to overfill. And most the problems correlate to overfilling. I typically fill slightly above the 6hr mark and it works beautifully.
dfeste
After hearing you guys earlier I pulled mine out and filled it up and lit it again. Still going by the way. I'm sticking to what I said, it smells like lighter fluid.
jentz
I tried these years back, after the smell, petrochemical burns on my skin and some times they go out.I switched to the charcoal stick hand warmers.I have had 4 for at least 20 years,Never fail and the fuel is easy to carry extras and cheap! Just google solid fuel hand warmers. So much easier and better than petro fuels
MNice
They are more compact and seem to work better for me. Haven't used a jon-e for quite a few years though. Going from memory, which may not be a good thing. The zippo has a catalytic burner and I remember the jon-e as just having a wick. Love my zippo
Tom Batiuk
I've followed the instructions on it and filled to the 12hr mark at home. Sitting in the deer stand i haven't noticed a smell from it.
Agronomist_at_IA
Smell or no smell could be from type or brand of fuel one uses.
Lusid
Good point agro -What fuel brand/type are you using in the warmers?

Mid-Lake Rock
I'm heading out of town tomorrow and want to pick up the Zippo. I tried Gander Mountain and they only had outdoor lighters. Anyone know where I can pick on up on the north side or south side of the metro? Thanks.
CAMAN
Cabelas and REI should carry them, and you could also try D!cks. The camping dept is the first place I'd check.
Brad B
this is the first line of the instructions : Caution! READ ALL USE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING. FOLLOW FUEL FILLING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. DO NOT OVERFILL! • HAND WARMER MUST BE FILLED WITH FUEL TO USE. Use Zippo Premium Lighter Fuel or Ronsonol Lighter Fuel only.I love my zippo warmer so much that I am planning to buy a second one so I have one in each pocket.
